I would guess because black coffee has nothing added. Even Diet Pepsi has other things in it, even if it doesn't have sugar.

Re: blck coffee is ok

Maybe I got it wrong but I thought coffee and colas were both OK for me, or maybe I just assumed if Sprite is OK, so are colas. Isn't the only difference the coloring? But I guess different Drs may have different rules. That rule makes no sense to me.

Re: blck coffee is ok

I work for a coffee shop. Coffee is considered a clear liquid as well as tea because if you put them in a clear glass you can see through them. Only black coffee though, no sugar, no cream. Same with tea. Sodas like sprite or 7-up you can see through, Pepsi, Coke, Dr Pepper, you cannot see through. The coloring in dark sodas come from corn syrup.

I hope this helps ladies.

Yes, I could have black coffee. Make sure you stop when told. They can cancel your surgery for saftey sake.

I was so wound up I only had 2-3 sips from the Starbucks coffee my husband bought for me that morning. I had to check in at 10. I was thankful that I did not have more. I got up and walked around after surgery. I got back to bed and kept burping and burping due to gas. This eventually led to me throwin up...not a good feeling on gut muscles. LOL. I only threw up 2-3 tsp of gunk.. When I did I said well there is that darn coffee...LOL. Best of luck to you. I love to drink warm water with fresh squeezed lemon in it.

Re: blck coffee is ok

For sodas, check with your own doctor. Some allow clear ones such as Sprite, others also allow Pepsi. Neither should be drank until you check with your surgeon about what is okay for you as you do not want to make yourself sick and you don't want to endanger your health. Besides the actual color, the carbonation could be an issue.

Re: blck coffee is ok

Clear liquids generally does include coffee and tea, but without milk or cream. Soda is usually considered a clear liquid, too, even colas. Things that aren't clear are milk, OJ, pudding or applesauce. Your doctor will tell you what you can and can't have and they may not want you to have carbonated drinks. Fruit juices other than OJ are usually considered clear liquids, as long as it doesn't have pulp or fruit in it.
