Update on my Uterine Artery Embolization
On December 20th of last year I had UAE for two troublesome fibroids, one on the front of the uterus leaning on my bladder and about 5 cm. The other fibroid was on the back of the uterus pushing against my spine and also about 5 cm. Luckily, I never had the horrible excessive bleeding, but I had frequent urination (sometimes every 20 to 30 minutes), bloating, pelvic pain, and back pain. On Thursday, I saw my gynecologist and had a pelvic exam. Obviously, the doctor could only access the fibroid in front, but she said that one was definitely smaller. In July I will have an ultrasound to see how much both have shrunk. My symptoms have improved slightly. I'm less bloated and have less weird pelvic pain, but I am still urinating probably a bit more that what is normal, but I had to go on a diuretic for blood pressure, so this probably has increased my need to urinate. My back feels a little better, but I can't completely blame the fibroid for all of my lower back pain. Definitely, I have less bloating and that overall feeling of having a brick in my gut. As of right now, it looks like my UAE is working, and I am cautiously optimistic. I say cautiously optimistic because I'm not sure if the other fibroid has shrunk, and it is possible that I may develop more fibroids in the future. Right now though, things look good, and I feel pretty good, so I would definitely recommend that women who are suffering from fibroids look into UAE.
