two weeks post op pain - newbie
Hello
I am just over two weeks post op and was feeling pretty good and then tried to mow the lawn and do some yard work and then am really paying for it.(yes I know it was a dumb move, just trying to help out because husband out of state and such) Well I stoped as soon as I felt it was too much, but ever sence I have been having more abdominal pain. I do not think I tore anything but I was wondering if it is normal to feel pretty good at two weeks and then crash again for a week with pain? It is tollerable pain with out a fever and no bleeding, I think maybe I dont understand how long it takes for you insides to heal. I had a lah so small inceision and such. Can anyone help know what is normal at two to three weeks after. My doctor is wonderful but never really explained how I would feel and what to expect and what not too.
Thank you so much

two weeks post op pain - newbie
Hello.... I am 17 days post op today, and according to all the information given to me, we are NOT supposed to be mowing lawns! or vacuuming, exercising, or lifting more than 10 pounds. The problem is that once we start feeling better, we want to do more and more, and truth is, our bodies are still healing, and great damage can be done! I am finding myself feeling quite useless and VERY bored, because I am really taking the post op limitations to heart, because I do need to return to work in 6 weeks, and I dont want any damage that I do by pushing myself now to come back and haunt me. My advise is to listen to your doctor, and read the post op sections of this web site! I have found it to be very informative and it is very encouraging to hear the situations of women going through the same thing I am... Take care of yourself! juju

As far as I know, mowing the lawn is NOT on the list of approved activities at 2 to 3 weeks. I had a TAH so my circumstances are a little different. However, I can't imagine that you are healed enough to strain with a lawnmower. Also, no lifting. I am restricted from exercise and normal activities until the 6 week mark. Thankfully, I have only 1 week to go. If you read through the posts on this site, there are way too many sisters who have overdone it too soon and paid the price. My feeling is, what's the rush? Your health is more important than anything right now. There is plenty of time to do all the things you've given up for only a few short weeks.

Oh my gosh! I was told not to lift anything heavier than a mug of tea for 6 weeks as it is major surgery. It's quite common for heart surgery patients to be up and around and recovered before hysterectomy patients! You've had organs removed and loads of internal stitches as a result.
It may be an idea to have a word with your doctor or arrange a check up, just to make sure you haven't done any damage. You'll also be able to have a chat ...
Remember that recovery takes months ... and you must take it easy or you'll end up with complications.
Take care and pamper!

I had a TVH without any "external" stitches and was fortunate to have a Desk job that allowed me to go back to work after 2 weeks ONLY if I did absolutely NO lifting or anything strenous. There are a lot of "internal" stitches that can be torn or wrip and could cause you all kinds of grief.... It's not worth it...... NO more, NO more, take it EASY (as hard as it is, it'll pay off in the end) and let your body heal!
Look at it at either healing for 6 weeks or possibly 6 months or longer! Don't look so bad taking 6 weeks of rest when you look at the consequences that NOT resting could result in.
Patience and Great Healing!

I think you should really call your doctor and let him/her know what happened. Your doc may very well want you to come in and make sure things are OK. I know you don't want to get scolded, but if you don't call, you may be in for worse complications down the road -- so please call.
And as the other (((sisters))) have already said, please be very gentle with yourself from this point out.

Yes, I had to learn the hard way...
Last week I decided to do some things around the house and I had terrible abdominal pains. They were horrible!
So I have been a good princess and have minded the rules (see Checkpoints for 3-4 weeks).
Since my doctor said I could walk, I decided to walk at the grocery store today. (I really needed to get out of the house!!!!) I used the for support. I bought very few, lightweight, items; paid and came home.
I am (hmmm...I think the word my DH uses is "knackered"), and am all too happy to be back home to
With that said - please call your doctor to make sure you're OK on the inside - and to ask your doctor what your "do & don't list is." They don't mind.

I think you should talk to your doctor. I've been told that straining can cause herniation of your bowel after surgery. It can't hurt to at least ask your doctor about your pain. He may want to check you. Good luck. I hope you feel better and get some rest.

Wow thank you all for the words, I feel like a fool, but when I last saw them they told me i could do whatever as long as tollerable. So sence I felt well I didnt think it would be a problem. Well needless to say it didnt take me long to realize I should not have done it. I really am starting feel that I did not get enough info from my doctor about how serious this surgery was and how even though I had a lah my insides would still take as long to heal. I am taking it easy all weekend and will call Monday morning and let them know how I am feeling and if it is normal. I do not want to hurt myself and do want to heal well so I will just relax and take it easy. I thinks is awful that I wasnt warned ahead of time of how careful I needed to be. Thank you for all your advice I truely appreciate all your help.
