hyster swelling

Had a hysterectomy three Weeks ago, kept my cervix and ovaries. I'm 45 and a gym rat and had a six pack. Problem...i look preggers from my navel to the incision site (bikini cut).
From the hospital release day I've been slowly walking 1/2 mile daily and am a little unhappy because i lost ten pounds (i usually like a lean muscular look...lol...not just lean).
I can't do lifting weights or ab work for six Weeks...but does this swelling go away and when? Help!!!!

Re: hyster swelling

The swelling varies from woman to woman. It usually diminishes in a few months but it can linger on for much longer. I am 12 months post and still swelling.

Re: hyster swelling

OMG!!!!...the hysterectomy was for the best, i guess i had the fantasy it would be like my c-section (or maybe i was more focused on my baby instead of my tummy).
Thank you for your quick ..guess I'll keep drinking my hot ginger tea for the gas and wear the tummy wrap..:-)

Re: hyster swelling

Hoping you have better luck than me! I was worried I'd have a round belly that stayed post op and it's such a bummer that's what happened

Re: hyster swelling

I'm sometimes wearing the tummy band and this kinda reminds me of the c-section when my muscles were shot and just hung there like a saddle bag. Today i laid flat on my back on my yoga mat.and did deep breathing from my stomach to wake up my lower and and it seems a little flatter.
I'm afraid to let this roundness "set"..will softly try kegel exercises and see if this works until i can do crunches.
Sugarandspice did you try anything when you first did the surgery?

Re: hyster swelling

The pain was so bad in my tummy I couldn't even wear pj pants with a loose waistband. So I didn't use a belly binder or anything like that. I've tried acupuncture, Chinese tea, exercise and lots of water. Nothing seems to help. Every medical professional I speak to gives me a different explanation for it. All I can say is it's still very sore and I'm tired of wearing yoga pants. I miss my jeans and my work pants.
