major complications after hysterectomy
Just wanting a little help support I'm so ready to give up!
I had a hysterectomy on June 16th the following week I felt like something was wrong. But I had no fever just felt off. So I called doctor who is 5 hours from me. They had my pcp order blood and urine tests Everything normal. Next at pain was getting worse. Surgeon said okay let's see what happens cause everything is coming back normal. Next day pain was dropping me to my knees they told me to go to local ER and request ct scan. I went my doctor kept calling ER finally the ER did ct and found 7 cm vaginal cuff abscess. They did one round of Iv antibiotics and my husband drove me to the hospital up where my surgeon was for surgery next morning. They went in and drained it and left the drain from my vagina. Well 4 days later the drain fell out on its own. It was still draining but not too bad so.I was sent home on oral antibiotics when I got home I was okay for 2 days then 99.7 fever. Doctor was texting and calling me 3 times a day to make sure I was okay. Even on 4th of July. Well July 6th he texted me and asked how I was. I told him okay but the draining has become as heavy as a period of yellow puss. So he called me right back and told me to come back up to him. I drove up again and was admitted they did ct and it showed 7 cm abscess again. So they drained it and put a drain in again. That drain stopped draining 4 days later. However they wanted to make sure it was gone so they did another ct to find a 4 cm abscess growing but they could not get to it except through ny back so they said lots do a Picc line and send you home. However the pain was so so bad that they could bot send me home so they did needle aspiration with assisted ct scan to drain that. Then I was sent home after 16 days in hospital with picc line. Went home again Pain and fever so went to ER and they did mri which showed no abscess so I went home a week later I went back up to my doctor they did ultrasound and everything looked good. My picc. Line was removed and I went home thinking I finally beat this. When I got home I started getting sick. Same symptoms. Fever pain so they told me to come back. This was 5 days after my ultrasound when I went back they found a cyst in my right ovary and something on the left but I don't have a left ovary. So they scheduled me for surgery on August 19 because I had normal wbc and they did not think it was another abscess. When I left pain Got bad. I passed out 3 times so back to ER and they called my doctor and he texted me at 1 am telling me to come to his.office in morning I was going in for a lap surgery again. So I went back and had surgery. I'm 5 days post op they could not save my right ovary. Everything was so bad from what we believe is endometriosis growing back in that short 6 weeks post hysterectomy. Anyway I was doing good but started having pains again. Small fever. I don't know what to do. Anyone else have this many complication? Is there an end.in sight? I'm so scared I don't know what to do. Please share your stories with me thank you!

Re: major complications after hysterectomy
First of all, I am really sorry you have gone through so much pain. I, myself, am only 10 days post emergency da Vinci TVH, both ovaries removed due to endometriosis. My one suggestion to you .... if you don't already have an Infectious Disease Dr working with your surgeon and there is still some question of infection then you need to bring one on board. I don't know if endo can grow back that quickly, that is a question for your doctor. There may have been some left from the 1st surgery - that is a possibility - I call endo "Kudzu" because it can get into everything, has a mind of its own. (if you live in the south, you know what kudzu is!). Also, ask questions and expect answers - sometimes the answers have to come from several docs working as a team.

major complications after hysterectomy
I am working with one of the top endometriosis doctors. Dr. <>. They did call an infectious disease specialist in to help. They were deciding on antibiotics for me. I was on antibiotics for 6 weeks. I got a yeast infection so bad my thighs turned gray and skin falling off. Doctor said this is first time this happen to him in like 10 years. And the cyst in my ovary looked like an endometrioma and all the stuff they removed Appeared to be endometriosis but he said that was way too my much for such a.short time. Everything was sent to lab so we shall see. He was sure he got pretty much everything at the hysterectomy.

Re: major complications after hysterectomy
We are TRULY hystersisters! I had my surgery across the street from you! I am sure my Doc knows your Doc and quit possibly you were in my ER and hospital! (I am a PICC nurse) Small world.
Six weeks is pretty common for home IV antibiotics these days and unfortunately we can get yeast infections from antibiotics - risk vs benefit. Must have been terrible for you. I am so sorry.
As I said in the first post, my surgery was emergent due to a ruptured cyst. Thought I was going to have one ovary, tubes and uterus removed (and was fighting to keep my uterus). Ended up with with everything (ovaries, tubes, uterus and cervix removed) plus appendix and repaired ureter all due to endometriosis which I didn't know I had. My biggest disappointment was removal of cervix but he had no choice. The whole vaginal cuff issue scares me and I am a nurse! As for you, I can't imagine having an infection there - a nice warm, moist area that germs love.
But, that being said, I think you are in the right place. First of all, this website (that I didn't know existed) is phenomenal. Plus, you are with a specialist - my experience with this type of doc is that they want an answer and keep looking until they find it. No wonder he called you so many times when things flared up.
You said you are now five days post your 3rd ? surgery. I am sure your body is a bit irritated from having to be operated on so many times. And I am sure you don't know now what is normal pain vs "I better call my doctor" pain. In your case, it would be appropriate to call and even say that to him or his nurse - tell them you don't know what is normal anymore and they can guide you. You are so in my thoughts and prayers today. You will get through this and somewhere down the road you are will be able to help another hystersister. Let us know what happens.

major complications after hysterectomy
I'm sending you love hugs best wishes and prayers from the other side of the world. Are you getting some vitamin and mineral supplements to help your immune system? What you are going through is uncharted territory for most of us, but trust the basics for good health, know that you have people praying and willing you to overcome this, and rest up.

And also, probiotics are really effective for preventing thrush when I'm on
antibiotics, and I also take a daily cranberry capsule to prevent urinary infection.
