6 days post hysterectomy bowel pain

Hi! I'm new here. Had my total hysterectomy (divinci) August 27, 2015. Everything has been pretty smooth with recovery except for bowel pain. I'm fine until I have to "go". Anyone having issues like this?

Yes, I had that for the first 2 weeks after my surgery. It may be that your bowels haven't fully woken up after your surgery; it usually takes a while for things to completely return to normal. To reduce the pain, try magnesium, which relaxes the involuntary muscles in the intestinal wall so they don't contract so forcefully. Good sources include leafy green vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate, or a good quality supplement. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Thanks! The problem for me is I'm going 7 to 8 times a day all regular size movements and very painful. My Dr prescribed colace 2x a day.. Maybe that's too much? I'm finding myself straining a little and that's making me hurt even more ugh!

Is it hard or soft? I have been taking stool softeners apple juice water some dove dark chocolate and some fiber one bars. And I haven't had a problem. If the problem is your going to much I would call your doctor to see what he/she has to say. Hope your feeling beeter soon

Definitely soft. I just spoke to him. He said it sounds like a bladder infection. And to stop taking the colace. He called in an antibiotic. I hope it helps! Thanks!

Yes! I was speaking with my Dr and she said its because obviously things are moved around inside and the bowel does not like to be touched. I try to eat lots of fibre rich food and and plenty of water. Its been a bit over 2 weeks since i had mine and it still feels uncomfortable to poo. the softer the better I think, as there is no was im using my stomach fully to push it out
