NY Times fibroids article 8/7

On Tues Aug 7 there will be an article in the NY Times about fibroids and focused ultrasound surgery. They called to interview me today because I've had it done twice. It sounds like it'll be a very informative article, so if you are wondering about this new treatment you should be sure to pick it up.

I have never hear of this type of surgery. Exactly what is the procedure?

Focused ultrasound is a new technology that uses MRI guided ultrasound to heat the fibroids so they die. In my case it didn't work (maybe mine are just too big, I don't know exactly why it failed) It's a very promising new treatment but not covered by most insurances yet. Many thanks for the head's up! I will watch for the article and bring it along on September 5th when my GYN measures my fibroids again. (Last I knew I had a sizable fast-growing one near my bladder. Argh! Hopefully it is slowing down.)
