Re: 6 days post hysterectomy: depression and crying after a tlh???

Yes! This is totally normal and a very common concern post op. Several things can contribute to this: the trauma of surgery, the anesthetic and post op pain meds, and hormones. Your profile doesn't say if you kept your ovaries or not. If they have been removed you will be experiencing surgical menopause. Even if you kept your ovaries, they could be in shock from the trauma of surgery. We sometimes call these "sleepy ovaries". I felt mine kick in at about 6 weeks post op. Until then I was weeping constantly. It's an emotional but it does get better! Here is some info:

Emotions: Crying Post Op

You and your body have been through a lot. Lots of TLC and ask your family for their patience. Let them know this is part of recovery and it will pass. If you are concerned, definitely call your doctor. Our emotional/mental well being is just as important as the physical. Some women take an antidepressant or HRT for a while until the ovaries kick back in - it's ok to ask for help.

I am 4wks out I too cried about everything the 2nd n 3rd wks. It gets better. I think a lot of it is pain Meds. I was coming off of them. So I think that added to the Emotional roller coaster.
