Headaches

I was wondering if others have had problems with headaches after their surgery? I started with headaches the day I came home from the hospital (3 days post op) and have had them every day since then. I called the doctor and she couldn't come up with a reason for the headaches. Its getting very frustrating since I've now had them for a week.

Re: Headaches

I had a mild headach for two weeks straight just a few days after my total hysterctomy. My doctor told me it was because I had my ovaries removed and the sudden drop of hormones. It does go away but it took two weeks for me.

Re: Headaches

I am 4 weeks post op and the headaches have started to subside. Nothing like a migraine, but an ache that is there and noticeable all of the time. Hope you are feeling better soon! Heal well.

Re: Headaches

Thanks ladies. I kept my ovaries so I'm not sure why I have the headaches. I just know that I'm miserable.

Re: Headaches

Hi philliesfan!
Some pain meds can cause headaches. Constipation can also cause them. Stress or lack of sleep. Fatigue is another one. Dehydration or lack of food. Barometric pressure can be one as well, but that usually changes often enough that the headache will go away.
I suffer from headaches and migraines and just went through the list I go through when I get them.
Hope you can find out what's causing them.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Re: Headaches

Thanks Suzanne. Fatigue and lack of sleep could be problems. If I sleep too much during the day, I can't sleep at night. Lack of food could also be a problem. Food seems to go right through me rather than the typical constipation which seems to be typical! Leave it to me to be the odd ball!

Re: Headaches

Hi Patti
Here I thought I was the odd ball. I have been known to have raging ear infections and no fever. Family Dr now knows if I say I have an ear infection, just get me on the antibiotics. My "normal" temp is a full degree lower than normal.

If food is going right through, that can cause headaches as well. Be sure to drink extra water so you don't get dehydrated.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Re: Headaches

i have been having terrible headaches in base of my skull/neck area. my doctor has order a ct scan of the spin in the neck. there's some discussion of neck strain as to be on the vent. idk yet what is going on but when it hurts it'll knock me down for the day. i have to take vicodin for the pain its so bad, and i really dont want to be taking those anymore. insurance company says i have to wait 2 more weeks for pre approval for test to see if it goes away on its own. OUCh. i have an appointment for some massage therepy next week. we'll see. Hope your headaches get better. if you find out whats the cause or the treatment please post the information. thanks

Re: Headaches

I've been having nagging headaches almost every day (I'm one week post-op). I chaulk it up to all of the above: Not eating much, not much activity, just being "down." I'm sure this will improve as I get back to normal!

I kept my ovary also.

Re: Headaches

I had headaches I think that were from the pain meds that I was taking. I do the ibuprofin right now hopefully that is all that I will need. I have noticed sleeping better after the surgery, way happy about that....
