6 weeks post- hysterectomy and still tire easily. Any suggestions?

Good afternoon everyone. I'm 6 weeks post-op. I believe I'm progressing well but I've noticed that I've lost some body strength, or is it my imagination? I've been cleared by my doctor to walk & I've been walking but I get tired quickly & stop. I return to work in 2 weeks. My job is a sit down position for 12 hrs. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm already sitting for most of my day. Should I push myself to keep walking? Or listen to my body & accept it as being tired? Thanks

cocodeedee, I'm glad to hear that you are progressing well. Your body has been through. Slowly but surely, you will get your energy back. Keep listening to your body. Push it when it lets you and rest it when it tells you to. For some of us, it can take up to one year to get to 100%. At 6 months, we're about 80%, 6 weeks about 50%.

Do what you can, you are still healing. Day by day, step by step, you will get your energy back. I had some exhausting days, but just had to keep reminding myself that I had just had major surgery. In time it got better.

Thank U Wandatd. I REALLY have to keep reminding myself "MAJOR SURGERY." I usually bounce back quickly & the fam bam is not used to me being in the "renovation" stages as I call it, so its nice to hear take it easy & slow down without feeling guilty. I'm gonna take ur advice & heal.

My energys increasing weekly, dont get discouraged. Im closing in on 9 wks and every day gets better. i still let DH, do heavy stuff, pace myself, let stuff go and smile now because i know im still recovering and it takes time and lotsa patience. When i let others do stuff, i wink at Dh and say, "Im making sure im healthy enough for sexual activity," he laughs. " and does whatever i need help with. You just gotta accept a new normal for awhile.

Aprilmoon,

9 wks? Thank u for sharing that bcuz I've been made to feel like 6 wks is sufficient time for healing & back to the basics & I'm not feeling that at all! I have good days & just ok days. I've been getting upset with myself for WANTING to hang out in bed all day. I'm gonna enjoy the next 2 1/2 weeks off!

GEORGIAROSE! Thank u ma'am for reminding me of my gift of talk & reasoning! Lol. Before my surgery, I was quick with responding why I can't do this or that. But lately since I'm moving slow, I think I fell into the "woe is me" mode.

Re: 6 weeks post- hysterectomy and still tire easily. Any suggestions?

Not quite 9 wks, but getting more normal every day, just have to accept some limitations, Dr thought it was all normal. I said, "Yeah, then I dont feel so bad." I think we are made to think everything will all be normal in 6 wks and its just not so. Im 44, and was fairly active before adeno kicked my bum ! DH reminds me how sick I was before and that it will take time. My best time of day is before afternoon, then I start to 'tucker out.' Hang in there, we will get there together. ;-)

Our 'date nights,' have been lazy ones, where he cooks and we watch a Hallmark movie ;-) But its all good.

Georgia! Yes! Lazy date nights! Ha! I'm 48 & thinking: is age catching up with me? Naw! Not this quick! My hubby is more understanding than me. Humph! I guess he's right! Thanks again!
