Scheduled for tomorrow -- still no approval from insurance

Well, here we are, less than 24 hours from surgery and still, no approval. They want me to go on BCP for 3-6 months and see if that helps, I countered with the fact that BC makes me psychotic and I actually fear for my children's safety if I am on them.

I've got the second opinion -- it stands with my doctor's -- hysterectomy is the only guaranteed solution (periods for 12-21 days for the past 12 months, severe pelvic pain, migraines during my period, prolapsed poly-cystic right ovary -- left one is GREAT!). My husband's employer has also started fighting the insurance company. We call daily. It's crazy.

I'm going to continue my planned day as if surgery was approved and ready to go. I have two kids to drop off at different houses, sign new auto insurance policy and a meeting tonight to turn in an assignment, pack for the castle and one last trip the store so that DH doesn't have to make a million trips there after work for the next two weeks.

I'd be very cautious about having the surgery without the pre-cert. from the ins. co. The dr. will still do the procedure but you'll be billed as if you didn't have insurance at all...this procedure can be quite expensive.

I'm surprised that your dr. hasn't been calling frequently to get the pre-cert. approved. All he needs is the auth.# by phone and a copy by fax.

Good luck!

No, I'm not having it tomorrow if we don't have the approval from insurance. My doctor has been fighting the denial every day for over two weeks. The insurance company wants to try three other surgical procedures first and then talk about hysterectomy. I would rather do it in one shot.

{{{Frogprincess}}} I hope you can get your pre cert, however your situation is not that unusual. Many insurance companies will not pay for a hyster unless "follow the process" and try the other procedures first. Even though it seems redundant, they want you to exhaust all options first. I would be very suprised if your dr was able to get the pre cert. I don't want to sound discouraging, but many of us have been through this same thing. I am glad that you have posted that you will not gothrough with the operation unless you have pre cert. You could wind up with a hum-dinger of a bill! I hope everything goes well for you!

What I don't understand is that none of the other surgeries are going to work in my case. The fibroids/tumors are submucosal and can't just be cut out. They are too close to the outer wall of the uterus.

I'm so tired of fighting it. I've done nothing but cry for 4 days. I hurt terribly, I'm flooding out, I've had a 4 day migraine. I have Darvoset for pain management, but my three kids are home and I can't be doped up and take care of them.
