Hmm, I'm afraid I won't be able to do that...I have to do a bowel prep and I'm told that I shouldn't go very far from the bathroom. I'll try to get cleaning and stuff done prior...today is my last day of work. I planned to leave everything for this time...it'll keep me super busy and won't have as much of a chance to get dirty again before I go...If I leave the house for the castle really clean, the other inhabitants will be more inclined to not let me come home to anything less.
I don't have anyone but my DH and my 18yr old daughter. Son lives in TX. Daughter is Sr. in HS and works...will be busy much of the time. Hubby, of course must work...but I'm sure they'll be helpful when they are home. My mom died from breast cancer back in '91.
I'll survive, always do. But I most definitely will be closely following recovery instructions...screw the messes. It's not my shift.

What to get done around home before surgery???
The best thing I did for myself for post-op is hire someone to clean my house for next 2 months.
I'm one week post-op and she came and cleaned yesterday. WHAT A BLESSING THAT WAS! Fresh sheets on my bed and my house is spotless. I found yesterday afternoon and today, I have not felt the need to lift a finger since my house is already clean!
It was the best pampering I could have done for myself. She'll be back every 2 weeks until I'm fully recovered (or maybe I'll just keep the service )

I have someone that comes every two weeks and it is wonderful. She is coming tomorrow...the day of my surgery.

Good luck!!

A pedicure is a wonderful, relaxing treat the day before your surgery - I did it too!! You may want to opt for clear polish as most surgeons require polish free nails during surgery. Enjoy your pampering!!

Don't forget to take care of shaving, "Nair"-ing or waxing legs!!! There's nothing worse than feeling a forest spring up and not being able to mow it down.
I'm kind of on my own, my daughter works a lot and has a lot of things she does with her boyfriend, and my roommate is totally useless and more of a stress having him there than not, so I just have to close my eyes when things start to go downhill. Having some healthier frozen dinners you can pop in the microwave and the fresh produce is certainly great, although you'll need to make sure you have someone who can pick up more to keep it fresh!
Having things on a waist-high level is one of the best tips, and also having one basket or area for immediate needs by both your bed and your couch or chair is another great comfort along with a little paper bag for trash. If you're worried about the expense of stocking up in both areas, get little travel-sized items. Use refillable bottles for your juices and water so you don't have a pile of empty plastic sitting around, and it'll help keep them from spilling if you bump into your tray or table you have it sitting on. Besides, we don't want to add to the garbage problem!
I'd say the biggest thing to have taken care of, oddly enough, is make sure you have someone to vacuum and sweep the floors. My mom, mother of five, gave me this tip when I was young. Your whole house can be clean, but if you have fuzz or dirt on your floors, the whole house starts to look shabby. A quick run with a broom or vacuum does the trick.
Then, if your house is still driving you crazy--take some lovely pain meds and go to sleep so you can't see it.

What to get done around home before surgery???
At my pre-op, the nurse and doc both told me not to shave the day of or the day before the surgery. You don't want to have any open cuts that could possibly become infected at the hospital. I shaved two days before and was so happy when I could finally shave again about 10 days after! It was a task but I got it done!
