Post op hysterectomy panic attack

Hello.
I had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and 3 nights ago I started having panic/anxiety attacks in the middle of the night. I fall asleep and a couple hours later I wake up with my heart pounding and arms on fire. I had a tubal pregnancy in 2006 and about 1 week after an emergency surgery and removal of tube I started to have these same attacks. My OB/GYN at the time said I was going through post partem and dealing with repercussions of the trauma of surgery. It only last 1-2 weeks (can't remember) and I have not had one since. So, short story super long (sorry), from 1-5 am when I am freaking out I try to remind myself that it has happened before and will soon pass. It sucks....I am exhausted and trying to heal after surgery and not sleeping and HATE this feeling. I do not even like to feel my heart beat let along wake up to it pounding. I have not tried any anti-anxiety or any other meds but, was considering talking to my OB/GYN tomorrow about it.

Hang in there. By all means let your Doctor know of your symptoms. I waited until 2 week appointment to get back on hormones. They helped with a great many of my emotional and physical symptoms. I also have been on antidepressants for years and know that for me the meds are needed to be in balance. As a life time insomnia sufferer the nights can be very long. Behavior cures help me as well. Alone at night I read and the books help me not feel alone and distract my mind. A friend knits. I wish you well and know you will find peace as I have.

Re: Post op hysterectomy panic attack

Me too with the panic and insomnia suffering. I haven't needed antidepressants in 30 years, but with this surgery I needed them, got them and they work I think it started at around three weeks for me too! Beware though, they can take up to 3 weeks to really kick in. Also, am on premarin cream twice a week.
