I think my dr. removed my ovaries
I had my surgery Wed. May 17th. I told my Dr. i wanted to keep my ovaries. When I talked to him after surgery he said he removed my fallopian tubes but not my ovaries. Can they do that? I just have a funny feeling that he removed my ovaries. Will I know if he removed them or not, If I have menopause symptoms. What should I do if he removed them.

I don't know the answer to your question but I would hope your doctor would be honest with you.

I would say if you have that much of a distrust for your Dr. you should find another one.

I think my dr. removed my ovaries
Hi Voyager,
Did you possibly sign paperwork in pre-op okaying your Dr. to remove your ovaries and/or fallopian tubes if he saw a problem?? With me, in pre-op, my Dr. told me my ovaries were healthy and I still signed a form before surgery okaying my Dr. to remove one or both ovaries and if he saw anything unhealthy.
If you did not sign paperwork, I agree with RoxieMarie and Cinnamon. Ask your Dr. ~why~ he removed the fallopian tubes?? You might also request a copy of your surgery and pathology report. And, get another Dr. if your trust is broken.
Best wishes,
Mary

Definetly get a copy of surgery report...it will tell all. Interesting to have anyway and may be useful in the future.....read it, then go from there...

I just wanted to gives you a heads up.... you may expeirence menopause syptoms for awhile after your hyster even if you have your ovaries. The ovaries can go into shock and it may take some time for them to wake up, so you just may feel menopausal.
Maybe, you can ask your primary care doctor to order a ultrasound if you are that worried about your ovaries being gone. I agree with the other sister who said you need another doctor if you don't trust yours.
Take care!!

Sure they can. As another member already mentioned, you would have had to sign a consent form before this surgery... what did it say you were consenting to? Was there ever a discussion with your DR in which you stated that you wanted to keep your tubes? Why would you want to keep them, even if you did keep your ovaries? The only function they have would be to deliver an ovum to a uterus that isn't there anymore... so why leave them?

I take it that you don't yet have any menopausal symptoms. What makes you think your DR removed your ovaries -- he told you he didn't. Do you think he was lying to you? Why would he do that? DRs have a lot (financially and reputation-wise) at stake ... I cannot imagine why one would want to lie to a patient about something that the patient could easily verify by checking the surgery report, which I suggest you do for your own peace of mind.
As another member already stated, you can have menopausal symptoms after a hysterectomy even if you kept your ovaries, so if you begin to have hot flashes and night sweats, don't jump too quickly to the conclusion that your DR removed your ovaries. Some women find they stop working because removing the uterus disrupts their blood supply, so the presence of symptoms does not confirm the absence of ovaries.
Still ... you might want to find yourself a new DR. It's clear you've lost your trust in this one.
s,
-Linda

you always have the right to ask your OB about the surgery procedures and what organs to be removed...
doctors should always be honest with their patients, you have to ask him/her about your feelings...

Linda said everything that I had on my mind.
I really don't think your Dr would lie to you. He could get into big trouble for that.
What is that funny feeling you are having that is making you think that he removed them??

I think my dr. removed my ovaries
I didn't really care about keeping my fallopian tubes, I just thought it was odd that he could take them out without my ovaries without laparoscopic assist. I had a TVH W/ANT/POSTERIOR Repair. I told him in an office visit that I wanted to keep my ovaries and he said he could do that. The anesthesiologist said to my husband that he would have to be patient with me since I would be going in to menopause and I told I was not having my ovaries removed. They gave me something to relax me and the Dr. showed up, talk to him for a minute then I don't remember anything until I woke up in recovery. Had night sweats last night cring today. Maybe it's just stress. I'm going to call the Dr.'s office Mon. to get a copy of surgery report and path report.
