Still no bowel movement 3 days post hysterectomy?
I had my hysterectomy on the 6th (Monday ), and I've been taking a stool softener every day. I had a bowel prep the day before I had my DaVinci surgery. Yesterday was the first day I farted. I feel like I need to go #2, but there's a lot of pressure when I push. I'm super scared I'm going to tear my cuff.

Re: Still no bowel movement?
Malinda86,
Sounds like it is time to give your Dr a call. Some sisters use smooth move tea. But best at this point to see if your Dr has some advice. And please don't push, I know it's hard not to but don't. Hope by the time you read this thinks will have started happening.
By the way have you connected to your same week sisters on your Recovery Progress Report Thread. They can be great support if you need it. You find it by going to UserCP.
Hugs and Prayers,
Anndy

Still no bowel movement 3 days post hysterectomy?
My first bowel movement was on day 6. My top recommendation to get things moving is to take regular walks. Another good way to kick-start your bowels is to start your day with a hot beverage; top picks from myself and other sisters include oatmeal, warmed-up prune juice, peppermint tea, and a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. Also try supplementing your diet with magnesium, which promotes proper bowel function; food sources include leafy greens, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate. Try making a smoothie with almond milk, cherries, spinach, and ground flaxseeds; that's what ultimately worked for me. Another of my top tips, to get your colon back to working as nature intended, is to sit on the toilet right after a meal; this stimulates the gastro-colic reflex, in which the stomach tells the brain that it's full, then the brain tells the colon to empty its contents, to make room for the new stuff coming in. To prevent straining, make sure you're drinking enough water so that your urine is clear or pale yellow; also sit on the toilet with your knees drawn into your chest, and your feet elevated on a low stool, which properly aligns the rectum, so the poop can pass through more smoothly. Here's hoping you'll be back to 💩 soon!
