Is it better to have an abdominal or a vaginal hysterectomy?

I have a hysterectomy scheduled for later this month. But I'm not sure if I should have a absominal or a vaginal hysterectomy. I don't know any one who has had to have one done. Can some one pease help me to decide which one is better?

Has your doctor discussed each option with you? He would be the best one to tell you about the pros and cons of each one, or had he given you a choice?

An abdominal hyst is more invasive than a vaginal one. The recovery time is longer with an abdominal hyst.
What did your doctor schedule for you?
Everyone is an individual so we can't make the choice for you, but I went with the least invasive hysterectomy I was a candidate for.
Your best bet is to read the articles on the links I posted above and get as much information as you can and then go talk to your doctor.

D*****atly talk to your dr to see what type your having, it depends on your reasons for having it. My dr did a TAH so they had a beter chance at removing all the endo. good luck

ditto; definitely talk to the doc; you want the least invasive, but it also depends on the reason; if it's fibroids, it depends on how big they are;

it really depends on what youre having the surgery for. with a vaginal hysterectomy, everything is removed through the vagina. its less invasive but you also have no choice about your cervix..it has to be removed. with an abdominal, the recovery is longer because you have a larger incision but you can make a decision about your cervix. theres also the lsh, where just your uterus is removed through a few tiny incisions on your abdomen. you should really google all the different types of hysterectomies and read about them so you can make a list of questions to ask your dr. i chose the lsh but if i wasnt able to have that, i would have had a sah.
