strange? - how do they physically remove the parts?

I know this sounds weird but how do they actually remove the uterus, ovaries, etc thru the tiny incision?

They will slice ut up and remove it through the holes or through your viginia.

Mine did not go thru the vagina. Mine were removed thru the incisions. The organs are sliced up and then removed thru a tube in one of the incisions. It depends on if you are keeping your cervix or not. I chose to keep mine, so nothing could come thru the vagina.

If it is removed vaginally they may keep it in one piece. Mine was removed that way due to a cancer diagnosis.

Re: strange? - how do they physically remove the parts?

I asked my surgeon yesterday at pre-admission to show me exactly and he drew a very detailed diagram which was very helpful. They basically go through the lap holes to cut all the way around including cutting the tubes, then cutting the tissues that attaches to the abdominal wall (which is quite a lot and muscly tissue apparently), then do a half-circular cut across the cervix. Then they go through the vagina and pull it out in one piece. Well that's how they are doing mine! Then they either burn or stitch around where they have cut the tissue, and stitch the tissues back to the cervix so it gives some support to the vagina, and then stitches across the cervix.

For me -

They placed an instrument in the cervix to distend it so they could identify vaginal from cervical location. They cut around the cervix, removed everything vaginally after cutting it lose from other tissues. For me that included the tubes, ovaries and lymph nodes. They stitched the vagina shut creating what is called the vaginal cuff. They attached the vagina to the ligaments that support the uterus to help prevent prolapse.

There are Videos and Illustrations in the Video section depending on your level of interest. You can find the Video menu below the tabs in the upper right. You can either search for a topic like "davinci" or you can use the drop down by channels and look for the sections on davinci and also patient education.
