3 days and counting...

This Fri. is my TVH (hopefully) and I am starting to get everything together. I am having a dinner w/friends--possibly a movie too--on Wed....pre-surgery on Thurs....and of course my date w/the castle the following day. Tomorrow, I will trek out to Target to get last minute necessities--travel size toothpaste, shampoo, smiley face stickers, and whatnot. I am starting to get nervous, even though I'm busier than a one-armed paper hanger. I know everything will be fine and I will be much better off afterwards, but I'm soooo not looking forward to the recovery. The least to pay for a wonderful after I suppose, though. I do worry about things such as vaginal dryness, my ovaries going into shock, etc., however. Is it normal for any of those above-mentioned things to happen? I'm young, 25, so I would like to stay away from hormones if at all possible. Also, how do they check for ovarian cancer after a hyster? This is something I didn't think about until just the other day.

Hi Louie,

Don't have much info for you, just wanted to say hi- my surgery is the same day as yours.

I can understand your hormone hesitation- I have issues with Wyeth labs and the horse thing. I know people that take natural remedies, and they seem strong and happy. I'm going to check out the Hormone Desert- maybe I'll see you over there.

Good luck!

My date is also this Friday. Its 1:06 am & I can't sleep. Just wanted to say "hi" & I'll see you at the other side. I feel like I'm in a fog right now. Gettings things ready...but...emotionally...just numb & waiting. We'll do it!

Hello Sisters Who Are Going to The Castle On Friday!!

Put your minds at ease! The recovery is nothing to dread! Just take it easy, and that is so important. It cannot be stressed enough, but it won't be nearly as bad as you probably imagine it to be. Just don't watch any good comedies the first couple of days!

Ovaries going into shock are a temporary thing. If by any chance you do require hormones, and you may not, there are plenty of natural alternatives out there, and bio-identical hormones are nothing to fear. You are so young, and you probably won't have to worry about vaginal dryness or anything.

You must have had tests or ultrasounds already, right? Doctors can *usually* tell beforehand if cancer is suspected. They don't like to actually say anything until there is conclusive evidence, but they can usually tell. If your Dr hasn't said anything, you needn't worry. Cancer isn't conclusive until they do a biopsy, or they see it during surgery. Whatever is removed will go to Pathology for testing.

Good luck to you, LIW!

You will be in my thoughts and prayers, and when you're home and ready, we'll be waiting to hear from you!

Don't worry--this is truly the worst part now!
