fibroids causing uncontroled BM's

I have had excessive bleeding from fibroids for 3 yrs. Used iron to combat anemia successfully, from bleeding for 3 weeks at time with heavy flow and clots. Four months ago I thought it was over because my cycle only lasted 10days, then 7days and this month only 4days. But This month I also had 3 episodes of uncontrolled BM's. Walking two blocks from home had the urge but could not make it home in time. Dr says it could be Fibroid pressing on colon. Has anyone else had this? I am concerned that if the pressure remains even though the flow stops I could be very embarrassed in public one day. Any suggestions?

I am stalling surgery because I have had too many in past.

Hi Wildflower!

Yikes! How scarey for you! I had episodes the first few days of my periods that used to make me have to go NOW! I knew where every bathroom was within 10 miles of my house. My Dr. at the time told me it was due to hormone fluctuations.

My hyst was not for fibroids, but I have some information for you.

http://thefibroidplace.com/

Please don`t stall on this just because of previous surgery. This is very limiting and you owe it to yourself to get some answers.

Wishng you a speedy journey toward good health!

fibroids causing uncontroled BM's

Hi Wildflower!

So sorry that you are having such a problem!

I had really huge fibroids, but mine didn't cause BMs...sometimes they would distort things so that I couldn't go, which was pretty uncomfortable.

I also have had many surgeries and procedures, which is why I put off my hyster for a long time. At the end, I was bleeding constantly, couldn't bend over too well or lift anything at all, and had a 27cm fibroid that was visible on the outside and reached up under my right rib. My surgery was long and difficult.

Now at 14 weeks post op, I can't believe how good I feel. I know that I should have done it long ago....all that needless suffering. I have every hope that this will be my LAST surgery....I haven't felt this good in years.

Please don't delay when surgery is really warranted. You will be so relieved not to have to deal with such awful symptoms.

Hoping that you find some answers!

s to you!!!

fibroids causing uncontroled BM's

Hi wildflower,
I had TONS of fibroids but none were very big (2 - 3 cm at most). I have had Irritable Bowel Syndrome since Jr. High and starting about 3 or 4 years ago, I started having problems with my BM's. I remember walking my dog around my townhouse community and told my DH that I had to go to the bathroom NOW and I almost didn't make it in time. Ever seen a woman run with her cheeks tightened? LOL! It looked like I was trying to squeeze a penny while running! It was very cold outside (we lived in Virginia at the time) and I had a trail of clothes to the bathroom...gloves, hat, coat, boots. When my dh got home from the walk, he couldn't help but laugh. I'm glad my problem caused him amusement. hehe

Anyway, I don't think my fibroids were the cause of those problems, because, unfortunately, I still have them (the urgent bm's) My dr. was hoping she could fix that problem. I have to admit, at first it was the same, but now it's getting a little better. I just take an Immodium every day.

Do you know how big the fibroid is? If you have the surgery, at least your dr. will be able to tell you if the fibroid was the cause of the problem or not. I think my dr. thought it would be the cause of mine. Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

resigned to surgery

Thanks gals for writing. Had my gyn do a folllow up exam after GP ruled out other medical causes and she says the fibroid is sitting right on my rectum. The next day it settled down deeper so I feel it most of the time now not just with exercise. I know now I can't delay this and am waiting for my daughters dance recital to be over so I don't mess up her big moment. It's only next Sat so maybe scedule the following week.

I ask God to explain to me why this has to happen after I waited out the bleeding. But I know the answer will not came immediately. Time will bring it all into focus. Right now am getting a second opinion just to meet another Gyn because I am a little uncomfortable with the first. Maybe I am just upset with her for being the one who condemned my uterus. I know she is not at fault but I am still mad. I guess I have started to grieve. I am hoping by seeing another gyn I will feel more comfortable about her.

Thanks for listening.

fibroids causing uncontroled BM's

Hi Wildflower!

I also have fibroids which cause heavy bleeding, clotting, pain and pressure. I have BM's that are very loose also, they are worse right before my period, but I don't know if it is caused by the fibroids or not. About a year ago I had so much pressure that I felt like I had to have a BM constantly, I had an ultrasound which showed an enlarged uterus but my doctor said my uterus was enlarged only because I had five kids!! I also had stool tests which all came back negative so my doctor said they couldn't find anything wrong. I settled for that answer, just kept putting up with the heavy bleeding until a couple of months ago, when the pressure came back again. I then went to a new doctor, who did a hysteroscopy and found two fibroids (only 4 cm. each), but he says they could be the cause of my loose stools. He says that because the uterus is right next to the rectum, it can definitely cause problems in that area also.

I, too, have told my doc that I would like to put off surgery, so he put me on low-dose BCP's. I have to wait for my (.) to start them (next week), so I don't know if they will help or not. Someone on the Pre-Op Board said they have heard that BCP's promote the growth of fibroids, so now I don't know what to do!!

Hope I have been of help. I research my options every chance I can get so that I will make the right decision for me. I'm sure you will do the same. These boards are sooooo helpful!

Thanks all, new dilema

Thanks for the imput. I found a very skilled surgeon this week. He wanted to put me on Luporn brefore my July 11 surgery but I decided I have too many issues with the side effects of even one dose. I got so nervous that I called him to say I didn't want to use it. He tried to impress on me that side effects only become pronounced after 2nd or 3rd month but I wasn't convinced for me. So he said it was optional and I didn't have to have it to complete surgery - laproscopic supracervical Hyst. Now I think it should be only a myoectomy and preserve the uterus. Something inside tells me a hyst is not right for me. He told me to relax and we would talk about it closer to date but that a myoectomy was also possible. I am so close to natural menopause, have felt and seen the signs already. Maybe I could get rid of the offending fibroid and with luck no more will grow that big.(3-4 months). Thanks for listening it is so comforting to share my thoughts and your research and experiences.

fibroids causing uncontroled BM's

I am new to this group and it is AWESOME!
My uterus is tipped completely backwards, and the largest fibroid, which is about golf-ball size, is resting directly on my rectum. The result is the worst hemmorhoids I've ever had. The doctor says he's surprised I can have a BM at all. And here I was certain I was dying of some strange, rare disease.
My doctor is a riot---he says that fibroids are like real estate. It's not what you have, it's LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
Good luck to everyone!

Petunia made me laugh

Thanks,
Your location, location, location made me laugh. My mom who died 9years ago used to say that all the time when talking real estate to me. She was a nurse who could cure you with her voice, an old fashion one who healed the body mind and spirit. I miss her and her kind ways. I go to a specialist for colons this week I hope. Want to rule out all things digestive before I let them cut me. Thanks for sharing your experience. So far I have had little to no pain just some pressure. I guess I want them to convince me that the fibroids have to go.
