5 months post hysterectomy - itching

I seriously think I'm going to die! My surgery was almost 5 months ago. Before my eyes were even open in recovery, I said to the nurse "my boobs itch" she told me in recovery everything was acceptable and to scratch away. It comes and goes ever since but this last week or so they have itched so bad, right on the bra line, that I'm drawing blood because I'm scratching so hard. The worst part is, I don't feel like I'm even close to satisfying the itch. It isn't my bra because I wear all different ones. But it is so red, you would think someone poured scalding water on me. I've never ever had itchy breasts before... what the hell?????? It is horrible! Has anyone else ever felt this before???

Re: 5 months post hysterectomy - itching

Hi MacieWI! It's only lately that I've started experiencing some itchiness, but wasn't sure if it was because of what I was eating, etc. I have little clumps that have showed up here and there, but nothing like what yours sounds like. I applied the cortisone or some anti-itch cream that helped a little. Just trying hard not to scratch.

I noticed that you had both your ovaries removed. Are you on HRT? I've read in this article - Surgical Menopause - that a symptom of menopause could be itchiness. It might be worth talking to your doc to see if your hormones are in check and if this could be the culprit.

I hope that this subsides for you soon.

Re: 5 months post hysterectomy - itching

Everything is gone but no HRT for me. My mom is a breast cancer survivor so it would increase my risk. My doctor has said she can put me on a super low dose, to sort of balance me out. But I'm afraid of the possibilities. I'm actually glad this could be a menopausal symptom, it's relieving to know that just maybe I'm not losing my mind and imagining this. I do think I'm going to put in a call. Thank you so much, if nothing more than confirming I'm not too crazy. *hugs*
