Omg cat scan after hysterectomy.. cuff adhered to colon

I had my hysterectomy march 12 then a week later I began not feeling good. I have been sick for 4 weeks bloat, diarrhea , gas full feeling, today I had a cat scan to rule some things out. It all came back normal EXCEPT my vaginal cuff has adhered adjacent sigmoid. Part of the intestines and rectum. Apparently it can cause all these issues and needs surgery to be fixed and a possible colostomy bag temporarily ...SERIOUSLY!!! I'm freakin out

Wow. However, the colostomy bag is only temporary, right?! We can put up with a lot if things that are temporary.

Sending hugs and good vibes your way!

Re: Omg cat scan after hysterectomy.. cuff adhered to colon

(((Lmccunn)))

My cuff adhered to my bowel, but over a period of several years. It was discovered when I had surgery with an endometriosis specialist to have endometriosis excised from my bowel.

For me, my symptoms were similar to yours, though I could alternate between constipation and diarrhea. I could have horrible pain with some bowel movements as well as spasms with certain foods. I had a lot of bloating that could be very significant by the end of the day. My symptoms were what you would expect with an IBS diagnosis. By the time I had my surgery, my diet had gotten rather limited and I had lost weight as I tried to minimize my symptoms by controlling what I ate and drank.

I had my surgery with an endometriosis specialist because I had endometriosis on my bowel walls. He was able to do the surgery without me needing a colostomy bag. My rectum was not involved, but my adhesions were well established as they had existed for years.

What type of doctor are you seeing? Your OB/GYN? I would suggest checking with a colo-rectal surgeon or general surgeon about your options. With the bowel and rectum involved, you need to be very careful with the surgeon you choose. The more skilled and experienced your surgeon, the better your chances of a successful surgery.

I know this sounds frightening, but try not to panic. Talk to your surgeon and get a second opinion so you can make an informed decision.

in there!

Thank you ladies
Weser**** my Gyn ordered the test I see her on Friday and I have an apt with my gastro the end of May ,but I will also look into a colo-rectal surgeon as well. I also have 4 pinched nerves in my neck which isn't making all my other issues any better. "This too shall pass"

Re: Omg cat scan after hysterectomy.. cuff adhered to colon

Sorry you've been having problems
I had similar symptoms pre hysterectomy, with investigations showing my bowel being adhered to my uterus. - My care was managed by the uro/gynae consultant and the gastroenterologist.

My symptoms settled after my TAH.

I hope your surgery goes well and try not to worry too much - x
