Please help!! Bleeding!!

Hi Sisters, I had my hyst on 12/18. It was a subtotal (kept my cervix and my ovaries). I have been doing absolutely awesome - no complaints.. until tonight.
I just got out of the bathroom and there was brown discharge in my panties. I found that odd b/c I had thought brown discharge was indicative of blood and then when I wiped I found more blood! This time it was bright red. It's not heavy like a period but it's definitely blood mixed with mucus. I wiped a bunch of times to make sure and it was still there every time! I'm kinda freaking out right now and don't know what to do. I am not in pain or anything right now but I'm really scared. My doctor said that there is a SLIGHT possibility that I might bleed after my hyst and that he'd have to fix it.. is that what's happening?
I'm super scared right now.. I hope someone else knows about this!

It is possible you are experiencing what is known as a mini period since you did retain your cervix and ovaries. It would be a good idea to call your doctor and let him know what is happening so he can decide if you are experiencing a mini period or something else entirely. in there and let us know what your doctor says!

Please help!! Bleeding!!

Is it possible you are having a mini period. I also had an sah and kept my ovaries and cervix. I know during surgery they cauterize the cervix but it has the same lining as the uterus and some women do experience what they call mini periods after a hysterectomy. Please call the dr to see if he wants you to come in to be checked. Sorry I typed all this and then noticed that Weiser said the same exact thing. Best wishes and hoping that it is nothing.

Sounds like possibly a mini-period. To be sure, mark the time/date and how long it lasts and should it appear again bring it to your Dr's attention.
You're closing in on 3 months post-op so I would highly doubt its anything else if you've had an uneventful recovery up to this point.

Take care

Please help!! Bleeding!!

Thanks so much for your help ladies. I was really a mess about this (even though I knew it was a possibility). All I could think of was that all of my pain coming back and the thought terrified me. I ran a few blocks in the cold today (was running late to a class) and I thought maybe I did something wrong that caused it. I'll call my doctor tomorrow and see what we can do to fix it. If he has to re-cauterize, does anyone know what is involved in that?
Thanks!!

I don't know what would be involved in cauterizing it but hope you are feeling a little better.

Please help!! Bleeding!!

Hello Lindsey,
I had a hysterectomy 1 year ago tomorrow (the same as you, kept cervix and ovaries). I was really bummed when I got my first "mini period". After all the bleeding I did (before hyst.), I never wanted to see another drop of blood from that part of my body again! But, now after 12 months of a monthly brownish (sometimes red) mini-period, I really am totally OK with it! It never is enough to stain my pants, and it gives me something to blame the bad mood I was in the week before (PMS)! The thought of going back in for the caurterizing did not sound like anything I was willing to do after all the focus to that part of my body for the 6 months prior to my hysterectomy. I just wanted to move on! I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do.

Please help!! Bleeding!!

I called my doctor's office and spoke w/ the nurse today. She said that it could either be a mini-period and if it goes away, don't worry about it, but if it is heavy I should come in to check if I have a polyp or something. When I called her (this AM), I wasn't bleeding. Now, I'm bleeding AGAIN and it's much heavier than yesterday. I actually had to dig around my house to find a pad to wear (since I gave them all away to my friends). So much for finally getting to wear sexy underwear!
I'm so depressed about this right now. I don't want to tell my friends or family because I know they will be sad and worry, so I haven't told anyone but you all about it. I'm so scared my life is going to go back to how it was. I just feel like I can't win. I finally had my life back and now I'm bleeding again. I know it's petty and it's not as heavy as before, but darnit, I'm 28 and had to give up my uterus, give up my chance to have kids, at least let me get the benefit of not having to bleed! I'm sorry to rant and rave about this, I just don't have anyone to talk to and I'm ridiculously scared and sad right now. I just have no one to talk to. Who the heck will understand (or even believe) that I'm having period problems when I don't even have a stinkin uterus anymore?

Please help!! Bleeding!!

Hi Lindsey
I am going through this at the moment too. I can't believe how it has brought me down emotionally as I had put myself through this op expecting never to see "that" blood again. I have spent the day in the hospital having scans (inside and out), blood tests, the works as I have been bleeding on and off all week and this morning, flooding. My Gynae does not know what is wrong, there is no hermatoma showing or anything on the scans. Probably not the same medical situation as you, but same feelings I guess. You are not alone. I defintely understand what you're feeling. My Dr's receptionist palmed me off at the beginning of the week and I now know i should have been more assertive and got this checked out immediately. Although today was unpleasant and frightening, i am glad i have handed the problem over to the experts. I just hope they can fix it. Take care Lindsey, thinking of you.
