4 days post hysterectomy: Looking for advice! (children mentioned)

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the group & I'm looking for some advice. I've been through a lot this past week. 2 weeks ago I gave birth to my 2nd child. A week after she was born I started hemmhoraging & ultimately I needed to have an emergency hysterectomy. This has left me with a slowly healing episiotomy (needed to be reopened when the doctors attempted a D&C to stop the bleeding, but that didn't work), an incision on my abdomen from the hysterectomy, a newborn that I am trying to get back to breastfeeding (she had formula the 4 days I was in the hospital) & a 3 year old who is desperate for my attention. Before the surgery, things were challenging, but I was doing it & quite successfully! However, now that I physically can't do it all, I need help. My family has been a huge help, but they can't be here 24/7. My husband tries to help out as best he can, but he has odd work hours that leave him exhausted & make him not a very friendly helper which is putting a major strain on our relationship & makes me feel like he resents me for all this crazy stuff that is happening right now.
Has anyone been through this or something similar? I'm thinking maybe hiring a nurse for overnights might be a good idea? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Looking for advice!

Oh girl, I've never been in your shoes, but I sure do feel for you. This is the time to call up your friends and neighbors and put out a request for a little assistance. Many of the people you know would probably be happy to help a bit if they only knew what you needed. So whether it's baby-sitting the 3-yr old or doing some grocery shopping or just hanging out with you for a while, let them know how they can help. They won't know if you don't ask. And hiring a nurse is a great idea if you can afford it. Check out the visiting nurse service in your area. They are usually non-profits and the insurance might even pay for it. I arranged for one to visit me my first day home after my hyster and the insurance covered it. Best wishes to you!
