What happens if I start my cycle the day before or day of surgery? Can the hysterectomy still be done?

I have heard that they would still continue. However that is something you should ask your doc about.

Having your period during your hysterectomy is usually not an issue. When you get to the hospital, just let them know you started your period and they will take steps to deal with that. Be sure to only wear a pad - no tampons. But, to be sure, ask your doctor.

I have read many posts where women start the day of surgery or they are still bleeding.

A lot of women have hysterectomies because of uncontrolled bleeding.

Just to be safe it would be best to contact your surgeon to be on the safe side.

I asked my doctor because I was close to my period. Asked him if it would be postponed. He said "no way, this has got to come out now." I had severe bleeding with a melon sized fibroid, that led me to be dangerously anemic. Of course all situations are different, but I doubt it would matter.
