Re: Weight Gain

Hi!
I had my total vaginal hysterectomy (both ovaries still in place) 3 months ago. I have gained 5 kilos. When I first noticed the weight gain I thought its normal because of all the resting and recovering. I have been moving around, working etc just like before my surgery and eat exactly the same as before. To my horror I am still putting on weight on a weekly basis. I also suffer quite a bit with constipation. So, the saying about its all in the mind, shouldn't put on weight after Hysterectomy is not true for me. I am devastated.......

Re: Weight Gain

Our bodies are so intricate, you know? And surgery is such a trauma and upset to our intricate bodies....and sometimes it just takes time for our intricate bodies to adjust. I've been walking as much as possible since my surgery, increasing my distance and speed gradually. Despite that...my thighs just seem bigger - even though my actual weight is down a couple of pounds. Very frustrating. I miss my intense workouts ....but that will come back with time.

Hang in there, ladies. I wish I knew the reason for all of this weight struggle after a hysterectomy....really frustrating, huh?

Re: Weight Gain

Gaining weight is hard, I know. I myself have lost a lot of weight, but even though its difficult I believe it can be done! I do not advocate adkins as a weight loss method. It does have quick short term success, however any diet that doesn't contain the major food items a body needs is not a way to stay healthy, and pretty common for the weight to return. I am an advocate of the weight watchers plan, and also jenny craig systems. I myself have lost over a hundred pounds on jenny craig, and have maintained my loss with weight watchers. They teach you how to eat, and the best choices to make without limitations like adkins. The loss is slower, but its also much easier to maintain. I have hundreds of weight watchers cookbooks, with so many fantastic ideas for healthy ways to enjoy being on a diet! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me at any time! I've helped 3 friends lose 30 pounds last year! I would love to help you get healthy, and happy

Re: Weight Gain

Hey ladies...I had my SAH in Sept of 2009..and within 2 months of my surgery, i started craving SUGAR, CARBS and SALT...but mostly sugar. I still have not figured this out...I anve gained at least 20 lbs since Nov...NOT GOOD! Before my surgery, I was consuming 90% fruits and vegetables with lean meats, no dairy and no junk food...but then it went crazy..its so mental too...because i see myself hunting around the house...then when i specifically drove to the store to get something sugary, i realized I am in need of help...and fast. I already have a thyroid condition and a corpse low resting metabolic rate, so I already have a near impossible ability to lose weight..but I can maintain really well..until now..... i can do a low carb lifestyle..but its like I feel the need to "chew" on something too..thats kinda freakish..I just sent my husband to the story with our daughter with a list... which is topped with sugarless gum...so i wont be chewing food, but the gum...will see if that helps...Anyone else have a freakish chewing tick??

Hey Christie,

That's EXACTLY how it went down for me. Go check out the Low Carb Friends Bulletin Boards...we're pretty crafty at getting around the crazy cravings.

Re: Weight Gain

I had an LSH and kept my ovaries at the end of August. I'm 25 and active, but I have gained about 6lbs since the surgery (give or take). I know some of it's muscle, but I'm pretty short and 6lbs feels like a lot to me. My recovery was fast and I was back into my daily lifestyle within three weeks, which is super busy. I'm moving next month and I have a plan to kind of overhaul my fitness and nutrition to get myself back on the right track.

For starters I have been working out 3-5 days a week, no exceptions, since I was cleared to do so. Most of the workouts are interval training (with the Physique57 DVD set) but sometimes I run or do yoga. My goal is 5 days a week but I try not to get down if I don't quite make it.

I'm a vegetarian and eat organic and natural as much as possible. My biggest issue is portion size. I've actually started using Ziploc type containers for many of my meals as they have measurements right on the side. This helps me to see exactly how much food I'm consuming. When I move I will also be tossing food I don't need to keep around. I might really like eating Nutella, but it's not exactly healthy, and if it's not in the house, I can't just reach over and grab it.

So that's where I'm at right now...I know I didn't gain the weight overnight so I won't lose it overnight either but I have some clear goals in mind and a starting date when I will be ready to make changes too. Good luck!!

Re: Weight Gain

Congrats Kishey!

I've come to grips with the face that my basic body shape is to have larger thighs....but that doesn't mean they have to be untoned or huge, right? I can't do much exercise, yet - but I can walk. And I do. As much as I can handle. And I make wise food choices. Less stress sure would help!!! I'm working on that
