Questions???

Hi gals,

I've been reading some of the post and have a few questions. First looking at the list to ask the doctor, why would htey remove the appendix? What is a bladder suspension? I have had lots of bladder problems in the past will I need one of these? Is there anything else they remove. I'm going in for TAH sometime or other. I have already had my right tub and ovary removed and the doctor doesn't know if he will be able to save my left ovary. Most likely not. He said I would have to be on hormone therapy for at least 4 yrs if not 10. I hate taking pills!

I think I am preparing mentally but still have jitters. What else should I ask the doctor other than what's on the list?

Appendix: Some DR's remove this just so you won't have to have another surgery later if it acts up. However, more and more DR's are leaving it if it looks healthy. I still have mine.

Bladder: If you're having trouble with incontinence, discuss this with your DR. Sometimes the problem is caused by fibroids pushing on the bladder so nothing needs to be done once those are removed. However, if there are signs of bladder prolapse (it has fallen) then the DR might decide to suspend it or pull it up while s/he is in there.

HRT: I'm on the V-dot patch. I don't have to take pills. There are other ways to deliver the hormones to you - patch, creams, etc. Pills are nice because you can adjust your dose faster to find out what works for you. It's up to you. There are many options out there and you will probably find something that'll work.
