having a problem with stairs...please help!

Had my LAVH surgery on Thursday, December 6th and today is Sunday. When nurse was going over my discharge instructions she said no climbing stairs (maybe just once or twice a day). Problem is we live in an old house with only one bathroom....upstairs. First day home I thought I'd go nuts. Hubby had to go out and buy a TV and DVD so I'd have something to do upstairs. Since then I've coming down for a the morning then going up for the afternoon then down for a while...etc. I'm feeling good...keeping up with pain meds and not doing to much otherwise. I just feel very crampy when the meds wear off. I'm afraid I'm doing damage with the stairs....but its so hard to stay up there all day with much to do. I've also caught myself bending over to pick things up...another no no. Am I hurting myself??

I don't think you can do any damage from using the stairs once or twice a day. I had the same instructions as you....using stairs was okay, but not more than 2 - 3 times a day. My bedroom was upstairs, as was the only bathroom. The first couple of days I stayed upstairs during the day. After that, I would use the bathroom and stay downstairs on the couch, only going upstairs to use the bathroom.

Remember to stay on the couch. No matter what needs to be done, don't do it. Let others take care of everything for you.
