Scared outta my mind! Da Vinci hysterectomy Wednesday 8/26!
Hi everyone,
I've already backed out of surgery once due to anxiety, but it's been rescheduled for this upcoming Wednesday. There's literally a million reasons why I should go through with it (family history of ovarian cancer and my ovarian mass to name a few) but I'm a big baby when it comes to general anethstia. I've had one of those wake up during surgery moments in the past and I'm terrified. I don't even want to say my fears out loud, but I'm panicking. Any advice???

Take a deep breath. Do it again and move forward. You can do this and you won't wake up again bc that is a rare event. Positive thoughts!!

Scared outta my mind! Da Vinci hysterectomy Wednesday 8/26!
I just had DaVinci done on wednesday. I feel fantastic. Just ask for Versed when you get there. Makes you very calm and you don't remember much afterwards.
Focus on the recovery, not the surgery. Take a day to get your hair done, buy new pajamas, see a movie. And think of all the relaxation you will have during recovery. I'm only 6 days out and I already feel great! It's been really nice to stay in my pajamas all day, not be the one to make dinner, and going up to bed to watch movies whenever I want.

Hi! Me too! I have had awareness during major surgery before, so I totally understand your anxiety! And how! I am so sorry.
Make sure to tell your anesthesiologist ALL ABOUT IT when you meet. Tell him/her whether you felt pain, and exactly what you recall. Sometimes they can think it was our imagination; in my case I recalled something I could not have possibly known about unless I were awake, so they knew that it wasn't a dream. Tell everyone all about it: the surgeon, the nurses, anyone who will listen...I don't know how long ago it was that you had awareness, but know that things have changed a lot recently when it comes to anesthesia monitoring, so they can be sure to keep you asleep. I am happy to report that I did not wake up during this surgery. You won't either. And please report back. I feel for you.

Wishing you lots of good thoughts for tomorrow. You're not the only one who gets nervous. I've always found the anesthesiologists to be extremely reassuring before all of my surgeries and willing to answer questions. Talk to them about your past experiences and worries, to see what they can do to help.

You're in the home stretch right now so that is something you can and should be proud of. I suffer from chronic depression and anxiety so I've learned to be positive about each and any small step I make towards reaching a new "scary" goal. Visualize yourself in your recovery room - and over with the stress of anticipation! That worked for me. I also knew I wouldn't sleep the night before so I read my favorite magazines and watched movies to divert my mind in a positive way.
And as the kind others here have suggested, express your fears to your nurses and anethesiologists so they can help you manage your anxiety as soon as you start getting prepped for surgery.
Hugs and I wish you peace and inner strength - just know you deserve to be well and that you are making the best decision for You!

u can do this.... it will be so worth it in the end.... i have my moments of severe panic.. i just have to calm myself down.. i would be super terrified too if i woke up during surgery!!!!!!!!!!! but try not to think of it... hopefully the surgeon and anesthesia drs will know that happened in the past and make sure it doesnt happen again... definitely let them know when u get there that u are freaking the F out and maybe they can give u something to calm ur nerves! wishing u the best of luck!!! it helps me to keep my mind busy or do something other than sit around waiting with nothing but my thoughts.... i also try not to read too much on here bc i start to freak myself out even more.... btw what happened to u is a big fear of mine so now im sitting here panicked!! haha hope it all goes well!!

Mine is tomorrow morning at 7:30 am, I'm nervous too but I've told myself this is the best thing and I've heard nothing but positive feedback from the several friends I have that have already done this. I'm not having DaVinci, I'm having LAVH, my husband had DaVinci surgery for prostate cancer 3 years ago and did great, quick recovery...you'll be fine. I am just looking forward to leaving all the awfulness my uterus has caused me for so long behind and getting on with my life. Best wishes to you, you can do this.

I am terrified of anesthesia. Like terrible. I made it through okay. Just be very honest with the specialist you interviews you before they give it to you. Tell her and everyone your past experiences. I started crying just because I am a baby and she was very understanding.
They gave me a sedative to take the edge off before rolling me into the operating room with the davinci. And I was fine when I woke up after.
You can do this, says the person terrified of anesthesia
