I had a catheter for three days after surgery. I was in the hospital and wore hospital gowns throughout, which made some things easier. I was walking laps around the wards with my bag hung off my IV stand, just about as mobile as I could get under the circumstances.

Don't worry, the catheter isn't going anywhere as it's held inside the bladder by a balloon filled with sterile water. I was told the catheter following surgery was to allow the bladder to "rest" and to allow the surrounding nerves to recover following the procedure. Not all doctors do this, but I think it's supposed to decrease the risk of bladder complications which is a possible complication of the surgery. Oh! I also drank cranberry juice while I had the catheter as it's supposed to help prevent urinary tract infections. Don't know if it really helped, but I didn't have any problems. You'll do fine!
