Confussed on what to do after post-op.

Hi everyone
I'm very new here

I had a Robotic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophoreectomy (reading from doc's diagnosis report).

I had it done on April 9th and I was released on the same day. I felt horrible when I got home. When I first lied down on my bed it was pretty nasty. The gas pain, my shoulder it was bad!!

I got up only to the bathroom and to eat and walked a little bit around the house and back to bed. Next day I was so much better. On Easter I felt great!!! so much better that I went to the mall and walked slowly.
I stop taking Lortab and managed with Aleve.
A week after the surgury I drove my son to the doctor and I waited there for 3 hours. When I got home I was in so much pain that I had to go back to pain killer.
The pain was around one of my incisions and on the right side of my pubic area, and right hip.
I stayed home all weekend in bed and just limited myself from doing to much. My 19 year old son help me a lot, cooking and doing dishes.
I went to my 12 days follow up and explained to the Doc my pain and he said that was part of the healing process.
He added that I can do anything I want to, lift anything, take airplane trip, except having sex for at least 8 weeks.
The written instructions that were given to me at the hospital say that I wasn't to lift anything heavier than 10LBS and to limit my activities for at 6 weeks.

I still feel the pain when I walk fast or get in and out of the car, brake the car and when I do anything that requires to lean forward.

My question to anyone that has had this type of surgery is.
Do I follow doctor's instructions or should I listen to my body.
Please forgive my grammar. English is my second language.

I'll really appreciate any input.
Cinta Rosada.

Re: Confussed on what to do after post-op.

Dear Cinta,

Yes, for sure follow your body. As someone once said on here "you only get one chance to heal". That is the truth, your body is telling you to slow it down.

Not everyone heals the same, but keep in mind that if you do too much you can make your healing time increase dramatically.

Take care of yourself, and take it easy.

Re: Confussed on what to do after post-op.

I believe you should listen to a little bit of both. Our bodies can be deceiving. There are days when our bodies tell us that we feel fine and we end up doing to much and find ourselves in bed for two days!

The doctor is telling us to rest and take it easy because they feel it is in our best interest!
