Set the date-- June 15th

Hi! My name is Sarah-- I've been a member for many years, but haven't been active in posting, but have used the information from HysterSisters to slowly come to acceptance about needing/ having a hysterectomy.

After 10 years of trying every possible drug therapy for endo (including medical drug trials) and having 5 laps for excision of endo lesions and large cysts, I changed doctors and today, after we decided that we've exhausted all the available treatment options & deciding that we have reached the point of last resort, we scheduled my TAH (Radical). On June 15th, I'll be having a radical hysterectomy. I'm vacillating between relief at having finally made the decision that is going to change my life and health for the better, sadness for what I'm definitely giving up at the age of 27, a little scared at the prospect of such major surgery, and so anxious.

Is it normal to feel this way? Is there anyone else in my age range (I'm 27) who is going through this as well?

I have the most overwhelming case of insomnia. I know I have a month until my operation, but I'm already obsessed with my lists for planning and making sure I have everything I need. In addition to that, I'm already freaking about being out of work as long as I will be & not bringing in a paycheck during that period of time..

I'm not really sure what the point of this post is, other than the fact that I feel like I need to vent/share/interact with others who are in the same place. Thanks for listening to me while I rant away!

Re: Set the date-- June 15th

I had a TAH and though I am not 27, I am 40 I had the same feelings you did. However when I was 23 every doc I saw asked me the same question, why haven't I had this surgery yet? I was too young, I felt wanted to have kids or try and wanted to wait it out. well I waited 17 yrs for nothing. I also tried all sorts of procedures & medications to help my fibroids, and what i didn't try I went for a consult. All were the same, why haven't I had this? Well I knew for about a year before I had it that it was time, I had prolonged my misery long enough. I can say that life after has been great! I can't believe I waited this long. I wish I was 23 again and they would ask me again I would say do it now! I never did have children, was never able to.

I wish you the best of luck and try not to worry too much you will feel better. Good luck to you.

Re: Set the date-- June 15th

I am 43 and had the same fears, anxiety etc as most women do at any age that are faced with a hysto. I had to get antidepressants to help me throught the three months prior to surgery. I stocked up on non perishable groceries, premade food in the frexer and stocked up on household items like laundry soap, bath supplies, pet food and any item that would last three months until i had a paycheck. I was also lucky that i timed it just right so that our tax return came just when my paycheck didn't. I was fretting alot too but once it was done, everything else worked itself out and I am soooooooooo glad I did. I was misreable for almost 2 years too. Take this time to pamper yourself, take care of you and only you, the rest of the world will wait. Best of luck to you.

Re: Set the date-- June 15th

Hi Sarah! I'm 27 and will be having a supracervical hyst on June 8th. Mine will be done abdominally as well. Uterus only is coming out. While I really want the surgery, I am TERRIFIED of it at the same time. Your anxiety is normal, it IS surgery after all!!!!!
