Post-Op Anesthesia Issues

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issues....

I woke up after my LSH to find I now had "difficult" in my chart (for all you "Seinfeld" fans....). In my case, it was a wrist bracelet that had "Difficult Airway" on it. Since it was my first time under general anesthesia, I had no other point of reference. But apparently the small mouth that confounds my dentist and requires me to use child-sized x-rays meant a very challenging intubation. So challenging, in fact, that my surgeon said she was cringing at manhandling that was necessary.

I woke up with cut lips, lacerations in my mouth, sore neck and jaws, aching teeth, and a sore tongue. Those symptoms persist. I'm most concerned about the tongue, because it's semi-numb and feels like I've bitten it badly, though there is no sign of trauma to my tongue (perhaps a damaged nerve?).

Has anyone else had this happen? How long did it take to recover? Interestingly, just 6 days post-op, I am totally off any pain meds with only minor abdominal discomfort, but my mouth pain is worse than the surgical sites.

Re: Post-Op Anesthesia Issues

Callaloo,
Have you talked to either your dentist or your doctor? I had some problems with a sore throat from the intubation but nothing like what you are saying. It sounds like maybe they bruised the muscles. I would call the doctor or dentist and give them the symptoms. Probably the dentist could check out your mouth.
Sending lots of hugs and best wishes. It sounds so painful. Good luckl
