3 weeks off from work enough?

hello - I am having a surgical hysterectomy and ovary removal for an ovarian tumor next Monday Feb 4th. I have a full time desk job at an extermely busy insurance office. I've only been here 8 mos. they have OK'd 3 weeks off ( I will be able to collect disability) but there is no one to cover for me so more than 3 weeks off will be pushing it. is 3 weeks enough? in reading some articles I'm getting nervous. other than this I'm very healthy .

Re: 3 weeks off from work enough?

I think the best thing to do is talk with your doctor about this. I had a different kind of hysterctomy (LAVH) so I'm not sure how that recovery compares to TAH/SAH.

Re: 3 weeks off from work enough?

It depends on the person. If you read the posts, some ladies are fine at ae wks, others struggling still at 6 wks. I had TVH and wanted to return at 2 wks and took 5. Sometimes to keep a job someone returns early but with varying degrees of success. Take as much as you can, is my thought. But do totally ensure you rest enough, eat well, and don't overdo on your time off, to have the best shot at healing fast. Good luck with your recovery.

Re: 3 weeks off from work enough?

Yes, as the others say, I would talk to your dr; only they can tell how much time away would be most beneficial. You only have the one time to heal right: Don't let the stress of work stop that. I think if you sit and don't lift heavy stuff and the workplace KNOWS you will be at about 60% until 8 weeks pass, it should maybe be fine? Still. Ask the doctor. He/she is the MOST vital part of this time off business.

My job, I have to take off 8 weeks, no if's ands or buts. I'm in fast food and there is no way I can return before 2 months is up.
