Hysterectomy scheduled -- would like to read some success stories
Hi ,
I'm new here and am scheduled to have a complete hysterectomy on July 16. Years ago I had Colon cancer and did genetic counseling and am more prone to ovarian cancer than the average person.
I too am looking for positive feed back. As the day draws closer I think I'm feeling really timid. I'm 53 so my baby years are over, I still have an active sex life and want it to continue. I'm not that computer literate so I'm not sure I'm even telling this story in the right place. I just know I'd like to read success stories if someone will share with me THANKS, Scanmann

Welcome to the site! You have come to a great place for information and support regarding a hysterectomy!
You might find it helpful to read through a couple forums we have! One, the Tell Your Hyst Story includes stories written by members about what led to and how their actual surgery went. The stories are broken down my hysterectomy type so you can easily read through the type that pertains to you!
You also might like reading through the Beyond the Land of Hyster forum where ladies come back and post how they are doing when they have returned to their normal lives!
It is wise to understand that their are risks involved with this surgery and not all of us end up with a happily ever after story. I had surgical complications that lead to a very long recovery and compromised health for several years. But I had weighed my pros and cons and knew I had done what was best for me so I didn't have to live with regrets over my decision. I just had to take the bad with the good!
I wish you all the best and hope that your surgery is a successful one and your recovery is smooth!

Re: Hysterectomy scheduled -- would like to read some success stories
Scamman,
I had my RALH in April. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I had cronic severe pain for almost a year. My left tube had regrown after a tubal in 95. It was filling with fluid and developing cysts in it. They only detected this once on several CT scans. My surgery went great, I had a few minor complications but now I am feeling great and pretty much back to normal. I still have a day here and there where I am tired but I am loving it.
Good luck

Re: Hysterectomy scheduled -- would like to read some success stories
Hi Scanmann,
I had my TAH/BSO 7 weeks ago tomorrow, and I'm doing just great. I had no complications from surgery, and my recovery has been "text book" as my gyno likes to say! I have just started back to work this week part time and I'm settling back into my life. Its been a long road, and the most frustrating thing is feeling goo and doing too much, then paying for it the next day! I haven't learned yet apparently because I've done it more than once! The surgery for me was not a choice, but a necessity due to uterine cancer, but the prognosis for me is excellent. I had also suffered for years (only 42) with endo. My doc told me that I would feel better than I had in years once this was over, and he was right. I still am feeling the effects of the the endo because of the severity of it, but he tells me that will ease up over the next few months. so, I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I know you will be on the road to recovery soon too! good luck!
