Just Back From Dr. Appt
Just got back from my Dr. Appt . We scheduled the Vaginal Hysterectomy for 12-03-02. He explained everything to me although Im just a little confused.
He said I would not be on bed rest.I can do stairs when I get home and I can drive after 3 days if I feel like it and I should have no problem getting around walking that is and no intercourse for 4 weeks.Every one I talk to says Don't do stairs and it takes awhile before you feel up to doing anything. So this is why im confused I had my choice of a epideral or as I say Knock me out turn off the lights lol.I chose knock me out I do not want to be awake at all.Well I guess. Ill need to get more information on the do's and dont's also I will go in for suregery at 8 am 12-03-02 and if no problems go home 12-04-02 that sounds kinda quick is it? Im wondering if it is also to close to schedule for Xmas will I feel up to it.Oh well enough of my babbling thank you for listening.

Just Back From Dr. Appt
Hi Kim
I had a TAH and was given no restrictions on stairs. That seems to be a personal preference among doctors. However, you'll know if you need assistance or if you should slow down.
As for driving after three days I would say that's highly unrealistic. At that point you probably still have residual amounts of anesthesia in your body which can impair driving. Also you might be in pain if you try to sit up for too long or even turn your head to look in the sideview mirror.
By the way, an overnight stay does not sound unusual for a TVH. I believe that's pretty much the standard.
If I were you I'd have another talk with the doctor and make sure you heard right. The reason I suggest that is I don't want you to put your health and your recovery in jeopardy.
Please keep us posted.

Ok now starts all the questions.
When having a TVH at what point to you feel comfortable with everyday things work/home and all that goes with it..Wondering when he will release me to go back to work 2 weeks 3 or 4. I dont want to over do it.Did that after I had my 3 child decided to start cleaning house like normal vacuum, dust clean laundry in one day and had to go back to the Dr. the bleeding started again so I wonder how long it will take me to recoop..scared I will over do it I have that if I dont so it it does not get done the right way syndrome which I dont think is going tobe good to have after surgery..oh well just blabbing again thanks again for listening...

Just Back From Dr. Appt
Have all your preparations for Christmas done ahead of time. Maybe you can order a Take Out Feast and get someone to deliver it for you. Simplify and don't plan on feeling up to lots of partying or traveling. You should do fine. Just have an easy going Christmas without too much fuss.

Thumper,
I definitely agree with Allison on the driving issue. Even if you have no residual drugs in your system that might impair your judgement, twisting to check behind you is VERY difficult so soon. I had trouble at 2 1/2 weeks post & still have trouble at just over 4. I had a tah/bso with a vertical incision, but it was NOT the incision that was giving me trouble. It was all the internal stuff pulling & aching. So, please be careful & pay attention to what your body is telling you.
My dr told me the only restrictions I had RIGHT after surgery were no sex & no driving. I was to use my judgement on everything else. I wasn't on bed rest, either. Just rested because I knew it was what I needed to do at the time. You will be able to tell when something is a "no-no" - just be sure & listen.
Also, stairs were not a problem for me. Just made sure to have my dh behind me incase I lost my balance the first couple of times. Sure don't want to fall down so soon after surgery! Ow!!!
Take care,
Mongie

Just Back From Dr. Appt
hi Thumper,
I'm glad you're on your way to the castle. At least the hard decision has been made. All the rest is the little stuff. I see that 3 other sisters are already on your date, and many more will join you.
There is a big difference in recouperation with the vag verses the abdominal. I'm happy for you that all can be done vaginally.
You're going to do well... and I'm sure you will have everything prepared ahead to make it easy on your family. Just let yourself be pampered and take the opportunity to heal correctly.
You take care and get busy buying those gifts! Oh, by the way, make sure you buy yourself some new white undies!!!!!
s for you,
