In tears!!!!!!!
After years of 15 years of dealing with endometriosis and three subsequent surgeries I was diagnosed with a growth on my right ovary last fall (07'). My Dr. and I decided that the best thing for me was a full hysterectomy. I had a laporoscopy in the summer of 06'. At that time I had adhesions wrapped around my colon. Surgery went OK, but the thought of continuing to go through surgery every 3-5 years was hard to bear. My husband and I decided that we were done having childred, so I agreed to the surgery. YOU HAVE TO READ ON! On January 15th I had the hysterectomy. Everything went fine......until a week later when a GLOVE AND SPONGE came out of my vaginal cavity. YES LADIES, YOU HEARD RIGHT. I can not describe the horror that I went through. My husband has been wonderful through all of this. I had to go back and get the internal site cauterized about a month ago because I would not stop bleeding/draining. KEEP READING........SO I AM FINALLY AT THE THREE MONTH POINT. You know, when everything is suppose to start feeling better. Well, my husband and I were having sex the other night (we have been since week 8 and not fancy sex, just thank the Lord I needed that sex). My vaginal cuff ruptured!!!!! The pain was the closest to child birth that I have ever experienced. i WAS BLLEDING, VOMITTING AND HAD DIARRHEA. It was coming out of both ends the pain was so bad. As you can imagine my husbands horror. As he feels responsible....he thinks he broke me. I had emergency surgery Saturday and spent all day in the hospital. I have been pumped full of so many drugs that I am going to open a pharmacy myself. Or, at least buy stock in one. I am trying to maintain my humor in all of this. I know it is one way to help me survive. But I am so tired.......and angry. But mostly just tired. My career has suffered, my family has suffered. I just want to feel good again. Now the Dr. is telling me another six week healing stage and up to one year. HOW LONG AM I SUPPOSE TO BE INVINSIBLE?

Ruptured Vaginal Cuff - can anyone relate?
Yes! EVERYONE KNOWS! I SHOUTED FROM THE MOUNTAINS! DON'T BE SCARED. EVERYTHING WAS OK UNTIL I RUPTERED! my husband and I are wondering if I did not heal properly since I had a latex baby inside me for a week. We have been having sex for several weeks and it did rupture during intercourse. LADIES, BE CAREFUL!! We all have needs and I will be the first to want to admit I like sex. Just be careful. The Dr said that unless my husband's penis had grown three inches overnight (I wish) there is very little chance that it was the cause of the rupture. I personally feel that I never healed right from having that thing inside me for a week after the initial surgery. Not sure what course of action I will take now. I just want to feel better. I am SO TIRED.

Ruptured Vaginal Cuff - can anyone relate?
Boy that is the worse thing I have ever heard in my life.
Now I know why my hospital surgical team asked each other a million times - is this patient packed? I got sick of the question. Now I know why they are neurotic about it.
You need to launch some serious formal complaints. What the @#!_)! does your Dr. say about all this? This is nuts. I am so mad for you! How does anyone know what kind of long term damage you have sustained?
Have they done a complete blood workup on you to make sure you are not harboring some kind of infection. Foreign objects in the body are prone to cause an infection.
I can't imagine your shock and fear when both of these events happen. I am so sorry - keep us posted. Take care!

Hang in there
I don't even know what to say.....
I am sorry this has happened to you. I am also ANGRY for you....and I don't even know you and I am worked up about this.
What did your Dr. say??? First, I hope you get well and healthy. You have suffered and the next person to have surgery there could also suffer the same fate. Just horrible for you.
I will pray for you and your husband. Hang in there and please keep us posted. I am about 10 days post-op and am worried about sex in the future (I'll be honest...I miss it!)and cannot fathom what happened to you.

Wow I'm so sorry you had to experience that. I've never heard of that! That is scary. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when you told your Dr. I mean how could they have let that happen? I'm glad you are positive about this I know I wouldn't be. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Ruptured Vaginal Cuff - can anyone relate?
Wow - that is a scary story. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I know how you feel when you say your work and family have suffered along with you. I had major complications and 2 surgeries myself and it took me 5 months to recover from my hyster. So I fell you pain with the suffering.
What did your Dr say about the gloves and sponge?? That is unbelievable.

Ruptured Vaginal Cuff - can anyone relate?
I can somewhat relate to the pain. DH and I hurt my cuff during our first attempt at sex as well. I bled, and the pain...Yowzerrrr!!! I did not require surgery, so I can only imagine how bad yours must have been. My Dr. told me another 8 weeks of healing, and I am now four weeks into it.
This has been my experience so far. The first week felt like the first week after the hyster. I could not walk and just had to sleep a lot. The pain was just too much. My second week was tough too, but after that, it really did get much better, much faster. Now 4.5 weeks into it, I am probably feeliing like I did, before we injured my cuff again.
My belly is still very tender and I still feel a deep ache or pain in my lower abdomen. I still have swelly belly - I was even asked if I was pregnant a week ago, and I'm not big (approx 100 lbs). My energy level is about 90% back, but I still tire easily. The toughest part was dealing with the hurt and tiredness all over again. I am still on around the clock ibuprofin 600mg, sometimes for the pain, but more as an anti-inflammatory. Your doctor may feel differently about this, so please listen to him/her.
I know we all heal differently - all I can say is, hang in there. It does get better. Rest up, and let your body tell you what you need....BIG HUG....
