When can I care for my younger children?

I have 4 sons. The older ones will be in school during the day and are capable of caring for themselves. However, I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old at home. I want to know when I can safely care for them while alone. I will have friends to stay with me for a few days after I arrive home, but then it will just be me and them for hours till my hubby arrives home from work.

When can I care for my younger children?

Luckily, they're big enough that they don't need to be lifted often... It may be a good time to teach your 5 year old to get juice and pre-made snacks on his own... It's the age where they start wanting independence anyways! You'll make him so proud!! And if he spills, you can explain to him how to clean it up, too!!! As for the 3 year old, you may need help with him for a few weeks, depending on how spunky he is!!!

Cuddling may be a challenge for a little bit... try to let them sit next to you, with your DH or one of the older ones in the room with you to "save you" if you need it... I think that you may be surprised by how much help they can be and how much they can do for themselves.

Try to have a girlfriend or a neighbor over while your older ones are at school... at least for the first couple of weeks.

When can I care for my younger children?

I have a 2 yr old & 3 older ones @ school. It was a least 10 days before I felt comfortable being around my youngest alone. After that it was no problem. She became very independent and helpful. It became a game with things like how fast can you get a diaper for mommy. I had drinks in a cooler that DH filled so she could get them herself. little things like that helped a lot.

Like the last post said, you children will surprise you with how helpful they can be.

You'll do great
