Gobs of stitches in vagina but don't feel anything; is it numb?
Hi girls!
I'm back from the castle and am 6 days post-op. I didn't have to take any pain meds today!!!! Isn't that great? My recovery room experience was awful. I thought I was gonna die from the pain and then started throwing up. I threw up six times while in the hospital. I had a vaginal hyster, A & P repair, and bladder sling. I got to come home the next night. What I can't figure out though is although I know there must be hundreds of stitches in my vagina why have I not felt even one little twinge of pain? Is it numb in there? All of the pain I have felt has been in my groin and abdomen area. I am taking it super easy but go outside daily for small walks. I really am not having any pain if I'm careful but when my bowels move in my abdomen--WOW it hurts. It doesn't hurt to go to the bathroom though. I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to go pee after the bladder sling but I went the first time and I can't tell you the relief.
The girls and I did our homeschool today with no problem. My husband has been wonderful about keeping the house up. He even cleaned out the fridge! It sparkles!
I have told others about this website because it is such a godsend. It has helped me sooo much.

Gobs of stitches in vagina but don't feel anything; is it numb?
Hi Kristie,
I'm happy to hear you're doing so well. Our procedures sound identical. I couldn't feel any stitches either and had no pain meds starting right in recovery. Celebrate your good fortune, but remember to take it easy. You have lots of healing still to do.

Gobs of stitches in vagina but don't feel anything; is it numb?
Hi Kristie,
I had the same things done that you did and was very surprised at how well I felt as soon as the day after my surgery. Unfortunately, I felt so good by the following week that I decided it was ok to do some "light housework". It was NOT a good idea. I'm now 3 weeks post op and still feel pretty good, but believe me your body tells you when you've done too much. Up til now I really didn't feel anything in my vagina, even with all those stitches, but now they are getting to a "healing point" and I'm starting to feel something going on in there. I wouldn't call them pains exactly, but just a quick uncomfortable feeling that reminds you that you had surgery. Please just remember that you just had major surgery and don't overdo no matter how good you feel. I think it's harder for those of us who had vaginal hysts to remember because we don't have that big incision on our belly, but everything inside is still healing just the same and is very delicate.
Good luck with your recovery.
Sandy

Thank you, ladies
Thank you for your comments. I AM taking it very easy. I take naps and lay down a lot and walk carefully. I go outside and feed my chickens which just amounts to tossing them some feed and checking their water. My understanding is that we are to walk as much as we can but not overdo it. I walk a little more each day and it doesn't seem to bother me. I am so thankful to God that I feel as well as I do. I know it is because of answered prayers from my many friends that I am so far having an easy recovery. You are right though. When we feel so good is when we tend to overdo it. I am taking everyones advice on here about taking it easy. I don't want to see that bright, red blood they talk about. It seems that somewhere on here I read that sometimes the nerves in the vagina (or abdomen for TAH) sometimes get cut or damaged and it takes them awhile to heal but when they start you'll know it. That's what I thought maybe is going on. I'm glad it isn't hurting inside there but it does make me a little nervous that the feeling will come back. I say it is numb in there but I only say that because I don't feel any pain there like when I had stitches when I had a baby. Those stitches were very uncomfortable and I guess I just thought that is what it would feel like but only worse.
Well, I'm glad to know this happens to others and I'll try not to worry about it but count it as a blessing in disguise.

Gobs of stitches in vagina but don't feel anything; is it numb?
I had tons of stitches and didn't really feel any discomfort either. I mostly felt cramping in the lower abdomen. At about 3 weeks I started getting the nerve pain zaps in the vagina. That was painful, but didn't last too long. I wish you a very easy recovery.
