Percocet and nausea?

I'm five days post-op and the worst issue I've had so far is nausea. Days three and four it was really bad, like the worst stomach flu I've ever had. Couldn't even keep applesauce down on day three.

Yesterday my friend who came to pick me up at the hospital said, "I can't believe they've been giving you Percocet on an empty stomach!"

Sure enough, I backed off the Percocet and my nausea got better. I'm even starting to get my appetite back. I'm managing the pain today with just Tylenol and Motrin, but not sure that's going to be enough.

Anyone else have this reaction to Percocet? Should I ask my doc for a different narcotic or just tough it out on the OTC meds?

Re: Percocet and nausea?

I had an aweful reation to the percocet, I had to call my doc and give me something. It kept wearing off after three hours and the pain was so bad I was shaking and nauses. They gave me Loratabs instead. After day 5 or 6 I've taken nothing but Motrin.

Re: Percocet and nausea?

For me the Motrin worked better than the Percoset and you can avoid the nausea and constipation that comes with the Percoset.

I'd ask my doctor for something else besides the Percoset, but then just keep it on hand in case you need it. If the Motrin does it for you then no need to use them - but if not then you have them on hand.

Feel good.

Re: Percocet and nausea?

Yup, Percocet gave me waves of nausea (and dizziness/sleepiness, which I didn't mind as much). Not to the point of vomiting, but close. So now (my surgery was on the 11th and I came home yesterday) I'm managing with only Ibuprofen, which works fine enough.

Re: Percocet and nausea?

I can't believe most of ya are managing your pain pain with out percocet. I do admit taking percocet sometimes give me nausea when taken without any food and yes it does bring in constipation but it knocks out my pain very well. I wish I was able to manage pain with mottin only .... = S ... Hope ya keep feeling better without it ...

Re: Percocet and nausea?

Even with food Percocet made me nauseated and too "loopy". My doctor switched to Vicodin, alternating with Ibuprofen. The Vicodin was much better, no nausea and good pain control for me. Definitely call ask to switch to something else.

Re: Percocet and nausea?

Yes I get extremely nausiated and vomit when I have them, i always have to ask for tylenol with codine, not as effective but no sickness with it.

Re: Percocet and nausea?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to call doctor's office in the morning and see if I can get something else. Motrin alternated with Tylenol did OK today, but not great.

Re: Percocet and nausea?

Percocet made me extremely nauseated. I've switched to just 800mg ibuprofen.
