Hysterectomy Surgery in 2 days

A friend of mine recommended this site. She had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago and used this site throughout the process. After reading through some posts, I have realized just how uninformed I am! I have been battling endo for years. It has been particularly bad this past year. I went to my dr. in May and told him I was ready to have it all removed. He did talk about the Lupron option, but after some research, I decided to go forward with the hysterectomy. Surgery is scheduled for 1:00 Wed. I am trying to get an idea of recovery time. I am having everything removed because endo is widespread. I need to start teaching summer school the following Tuesday - so about a week of recovery. Summer school is only 2 hours, 2 days a week. I work with high school students with disabilities. So no lifting or stairs. How will pain be after a week? Any limits on driving? How long to most people stay out of work? Thank you for all help!

Re: Hysterectomy Surgery in 2 days

Hi sjtodd! Oh my... Back to work in a week? Is your Dr aware of your work situation? I had LAVH and was still relying on prescription pain meds at the 3week post op mark. I wasn't cleared to drive until 5weeks, once I was off pain meds and could slam on brakes and turn to check traffic without any hesitation. I am a stay at home mom, but one week off work seems a bit optimistic to me sweetie. Your body will heal in its own time, but the general rule of thumb seems to be 6weeks before you are really able to get up and move around. Also, you will be tired. Exhausted. It takes tons of energy to heal.
Is there any way you can get more time off? You don't want to risk your health. You only get one chance to heal right the first time. Please don't rush back into life head on! Allow yourself that time sweetie! The possible risks are not worth it! 😇

Hi. I had my surgery on May 29th...multiple large fibroids, plus extensive endo and adeno. I had robotic surgery with a mini-laparotomy. Right now I am on day 4 post-op and I cannot even sit comfortably in a chair yet, let alone contemplate being up and active for a couple straight hours. You have no way of knowing until they get in there what type of recovery you will be looking at. In my case, the endo was so severe it had reached my intestines...the doctor took my husband into a consultation room to tell him my recovery will be rough. You need a minimum of a couple weeks off...4-6 is the norm. Please allow yourself the proper time to heal.
