exploratory lap on 7-22

I had my pre-op Tues and will have a exploratory lap on 7/22 which I'm kind of nervous right now. I was schedualed for a Hyst in April, but my Ins. denied me and asked the Dr. why he hadnt tried the exploratory lap first.I lost my first child to a tubal which burst and by some miracle I survived ( I lost over a liter of blood into my abdomen) which cause blood clots that had to be removed at a later date and I also had a C-section in-which contracted an infection because my DS stayed in the birth canal too long. I've not had a period since last summer and my Dr tells me I'm going through menapause at the age of 46. When I did have a period it was horrible . Like some of the other post seen here ,I've had lower back and pelic pain on my right side and my bowels always feel full. I have no energy and feel like life is passing me by not to mention my emotions bounce from one direction to another (try and explain that to a 16 year old DS). Anyways all I can think of now is that .. What if he goes in and see's nothing?. Will everyone think i'm just crazy or something?. I guess what I would like to know is that if anyone else here had the same symptoms or worries that I have now? Thanks for listening

I have not been through anything like that but I'm sure someone will help here. I think you have two options: Go through the exploratory lap or get another opinion. You owe it to yourself to find the problem. If they don't find anything you can see your family doctor for maybe another problem that it could be.
This is only my opinion. Please keep us informed.

I know your scared, there are so many unknowns and no one can tell you "the facts". Please, don't procrastinate. Once this is behind you, your life will begin anew and you'll be free, and if I were you I'd get rid of everything, you don't need it anymore so good riddance. Never have to think about any of "them" again.bonniebolander60

Hi there,

I am just so very sorry & saddened by all that you have been through...I cannot fathom why any insurance company would deny you, but if you must go through the exploratory lap. first, by all means, let the insurance pay for it and then let them pay for everything else that follows if necessary...

I too had an exploratory lap. in 9/07 due to persistent, suspicious ovarian cysts, bowel problems and horrible lower back pain (my cysts always seem to present as low back pain). At that time, nothing seemed abnormal. My problems worsened after that (not saying that the procedure contributed to it, however, I just kept getting worse and started having very heavy bleeding and more cysts). I finally had my hysterectomy almost a month ago.

With your history, I am betting that the doc will find something, but if indeed it is normal, no one will think you are crazy or went through the procedure for no reason--just look at all you are feeling and have been through

I know how terribly nervous you must be, about the procedure and about being denied the original procedure...just know that we are all here to support you through this and will do everything we can to help you.

I will be thinking of you, and wish you all the best for an uneventful procedure and a speedy recovery--please do keep us posted.

Sincerely, Trish

PS: My exploratory may have looked normal to the oncology specialist I had been referred to, but a mere 9 months later, I had adenomyosis and my appedndix was adhered to my pelvic region, as were my intestines on the right side...things really can change.
