I had TAH around 1:30 in the afternoon and the cath was out by mid morning the next day. Now, mine didn't bother me.

Remember, after having a TAH, you will be very drugged up. You will sleep a lot for at least 12-24 hours. I had morphine several times (knocked me out), demerol a couple times and then, the next day, they started me on percocet. There will be pain but it will be managed by meds.

Believe me, you will not be able to get up to go to the bathroom right after a TAH. You probably will be knocked out. I was glad I was. So, there is a need for that cath. Plus, it gives the nurses a visual look at the urine to make sure you aren't passing any blood.

After awaking from a TAH, the cath is going to be the last thing you will be worrying about.

This is the truest words ever! I still can't remember much about the first 24-36 hrs after my surgery. The little tube on resting on your leg from he cath...it MINOR! You really can't feel it inside you and within one breath it is out!
