Walking How Much?

I'm one week post op. today and am feeling great. Before surgery I was using my pedometer to measure an average of 10,000 steps/day. I want to start walking again as this is the only exercise I can do for the next six weeks. I wondering if anyone else uses a pedometer and how many steps you started with after TAH? I don’t want to over do it but I also would like to maintain my weight during recovery.

Oh hi! I had a TAH on March 30th and am 37, so we're close. I was using a pedometer for a while too. Since you've been using one to keep track, you already went into it fit. I shuffled across half a parking lot yesterday, and that wiped me out for a bit - or maybe it was the fresh air.

I do know you should take it easy and not push yourself, just do what you can handle and gradually work up to where you were before. I just remembered, I was using a pedometer a couple months ago when I was recovering from a cone biopsy. I had around 1500 steps a day for a week. Lousy, I know. Then the pedometer went thru the wash, so.... oops!

My first one went into the toilet! It was clipped to my pants and well I was in a hurry...............

I know I will feel better if I can walk a little more each week. It will be a visible indication that I am improving and might help me from getting impatient with recovery.

Yeah, I'm looking to get back into it too. I'm just trying not to angst over numbers. I mean, I *know* in my head it will take a while, but how I feel is different.

(and I was also writing articles for a pedometer site and because of surgery had to give that up. Sigh.)
