Stomach still not well
Hi
I am 45 yrs. old and had my hysterectomy in June 2004. I had really painful periods each month and a cyst on the left ovary, so my doctor recommended the surgery. It's now 9 months later and my stomach is still tender to the touch. The pain is under my belly button and mostly on the left side. My stomach is still a little big. I did mention this to the doc on my 3 month check up and he gave me a prescription for it. I will go back again in few months. I guess I am just wondering if any one else still has tenderness and pain after almost a yr. I just keep thinking it is a healing process and as you get older it takes you longer to heal. Sometimes I wonder if this pain that I have all day was worth it.

Stomach still not well
Hi I am 52. I had surgery last summer. I still get swelly belly occasionally. I sometimes get weird sensations at the site of my incision. The area around my scar is sort of numb. I am working out BIG time and feel I am getting stronger and close to NORMAL every day. BUT I still feel it is a challenging balancing act..."when is too much activity or an odd movement going to set me back?". I am asking this question less often. I don't know if I am finally beyond wondering " was it worth it ?". But I think the day will come when this will no longer be a question.

Stomach still not well
Hi Tabbietoe ~
That seems a little long....have you been over- doing since day one?
Were you active before your surgery? My Dr. told me inside sutures take up to a yr. to heal...but still, that seems like a long time for you to feel tenderness.
I really hope you feel better soon..please keep us informed.
What does your Dr. say about this?
Blessings, Plumie

HI
Hi there,
I am 1 1/2 years post op and STILL have the tenderness you speak of. I have been told many things, "it's just the way you healed" "it's adhesions" "it's not normal", so I have learned to live around this problem, I stay away from tight jeans (they seem to annoy it more than anything!) and don't rest anything on my stomach, like laundry baskets, and I DON'T lean against the sink or counter!!!! One doctor wants to cut my incision wide open and "clean out" the scar tissue, another wants to do acupuncture directly into the scar. Right now, I choose to do nothing. Two surgeries in one year have been enough for me!!!!! When it flares up worse than usual, use a heating pad or take a long hot bath! I am curious though, you said you dr. gave you a prescription for this, what was it?? Good luck to you. I hope you are just a slow healer.
