Uterine polyp

Hello can someone help me please. I had an ultrasound scan and they found what "may" be a polyp in uterus. I have sever health anxiety and I am booked in the have this removed under GA on Monday. I am so so scared as I am thnking what if it isn't a polyp at all and something else as I don't know how accurate ultrasound is, I had pelvic and also transvaginal. I have spotting 2/3 days before my period and a bit of cramping and then it stops completely before starting again brown/red/ brown with so,me clots (sorry for too much info) I had this for a long time but never thought anything of it and because of my health anxiety I had an ultrasound and that is what they said they have found. I am also on anti depressants for my health anxiety for 3 weeks now and also scares the GA will interact as it can sometimes but I know I have to listen to doctors. I am so sorry if this sounds very minor to you after reading some of your stories. The report says soft structure in uterus, uterus normal size, heteregenous appearance of womb lining but doctor when I asked him said that's normal! But from what I've read it's not! Neither doc nor gynogologist seem concerned but I have never had Anything like this before and I am so frightend. I haven't eaten barely for a month and have lost a stone because of it. Apart from the spotting before period they are usually completely regular, I am 40 x

Re: Uterine polyp

Hey Nat99, I am sorry you are having anxiety over the ultrasound results but completely understand it. I was diagnosed as having Cystic Hyperplasia when I had mine and had to wait 3 months just to see the GYN after that so was stressing the whole time. I had a Hysteroscopy and D&C done just 2 weeks ago and a polyp was found and removed. My periods had been very erratic for over 12 months before this and I only went to the doc because I was having sharp stabbing pains on the right side of my pelvis. My period started again just 2 days after seeing the GYN.

Hopefully your polyp (if that is what it is) will prove to be benign just like mine was. In my case the polyp was what showed up as cystic hyperplasia on the ultrasound report, as the GYN explained to me the hysteroscope is the best way to see what's really going on inside the Uterus.

As for your meds, as long as your doctors are fully aware of what you are taking it shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you anesthetist knows as well since he will be the one controlling your meds during the procedure. I have issues with GAs causing a drop in blood pressure but it was all managed and I was fine after the procedure, just a little cramping for which I was given pain relief.

Good luck for Monday and do come back and tell us how it all went.

Re: Uterine polyp

I ended up having an hysterectomy due to my polyps and fibroids. The polys were removed but returned with a vengeance. No cancer. Heavy periods and lot of pain. ...just like the fibroids. Polyps returned bigger and painful

Can I ask how long the polyps took to return? I have to have a repeat ultrasound in roughly 6 months time, I guess to check no new polyps have grown in the meantime.

For me the polyp didn't present with any heavy bleeding, just AUB and some pain. My GYN says I may not have any more periods (I am 51) but have to track them if I do.

Well it could be a polyp or it could be a fibroid. My GYN said you can't really tell from an ultrasound picture so hence the hysteroscopy was done. I'm assuming that's what you are having since you're having a GA as well.

Re: Uterine polyp

Did anyone actually have the word heteregeneous appearance of womb lining used on the ultrasound report? I am literally having panic attack after panic attack about it.

Re: Uterine polyp

I had surgery to remove the polyps and 2 years later they returned. Very slim chance they ever become cancerous....but it was concerning to my female doctor that they returned so quickly and was so large. The polys and fibroids made things difficult for me.

Re: Uterine polyp

How big were yours? Is ultrasound usually good at identifying polyps?
