Questions about ovarian function after hyst, and hot flashes

Hi there, I guess you are asking if your ovaries are functioning correctly. If you just had your uterus removed, the ovaries still function. Ovaries will usually be alittle upset after the surgery and not be 100% for a few weeks or even months. In rare cases they might stop producing alltogether for awhile. Either of these cases would cause mood swings, depression, or hot flashes. I had hot flashes after giving birth. They usually start with feeling extremely warm all of the sudden, then breaking out in a nasty slimey sweat. They can last seconds or minutes and then you feel tired sometimes. They occur alot of the time at night. If you are concerned your dr can draw blood and check your hormone levels. In some cases after a hyst the ovaries do not function 100% ever again. Everyone is different and you might need hormones, please check w/your dr. Alot depends on your age too. Good luck

Questions about ovarian function after hyst, and hot flashes

Howdy. Well I had my uterus, cervix and one ovary removed. My doc told me that the one good ovary would take over for both of mine. I would of had both of them removed but since I'm only 33 my doc thought it would be best to leave my ovaries if possible, but only one was saved. So far I have only had a few hot flashes. My doc told me I could have them for a few weeks more but they would get less and less as the days go by. To me they feel sort of like an anxiety attack. I get real warm it seams from the inside out. I have sweat pop out everywhere and my heart seams to beat faster. I have had a couple there at first where I even felt a little sick to my stomach. Just hang in there and I wish you all the best.

Questions about ovarian function after hyst, and hot flashes

After my surgery, my ovaries were "asleep" for about 2 months. I could tell they weren't functioning because of the mood swings and night sweats.

I knew they were kicking back in, when those symptoms disappeared and I could tell I was cycling: my breasts swelled and were a little tender every 28 days, just like they used to do before my periods.

We are all unique. I wish you the very best............s...Deb

dormant ovaries???

Maybe I posted in the wrong place!
I was concerned about my post op 'PMS' syptoms - moodiness, nausea, etc.
Sweating (god - such a lady-like thing) has always been one of my PMS signs...
So, am I experiencing PMS or surgical Menopause???

Questions about ovarian function after hyst, and hot flashes

It can take some time for your ovaries to function properly after your hyst. So in the mean time, you can have menopause symtpoms, PMS symptoms, all kinds of fun stuff!

Each of us have different symptoms after our hyst. Some have few issues at all, others actually take HRT until their ovaries are functioning properly again. And different ladies have different feelings for hot flashes, PMS, etc.

Here is an article that may interest you: How to tell if you ovaries are working.

Best wishes to you!

Questions about ovarian function after hyst, and hot flashes

I had my first hot flash at about 5 days post op. I've only had 2 so its not bad. My breasts are what feel weird. They've gotten very heavy like they do before your period and they feel like they are having let downs (like when your milk comes in when you breast feed). No discharge, just get hard and a bit sore. Its very odd. Is it related to the hormones being out of wack or are my breasts just going nuts on me? Has anyone else had this happen? Does this mean my ovaries are starting to function? Arrg, hormones are so confusing. Oh boy, hot flash coming on...oh man, hot flashes are not fun.

Everybody will be different. I have not had night sweats or a warm flash since I have had my surgery. I think my ovaries seem to be humming along. Time will tell. I can live without the night sweats for now.
