Normal to Bleed after Surgery?

I had a friend that had a TAH done and she was worried when she started bleeding a little bit so she called her doctor and he told her that it was normal and nothing to concern herself about unless she was saturating pads and changing them frequently. He (Doc) said that it was due to the dissolving stitches. Just like when you get some teeth pulled and the stitches disolve - you get a little bit of bleeding. Anybody else care to comment on this, please do so. Is there big clots involved also and/or does it run like a regular period and how long will it last? My friend cannot remember that part. I ask because I hate blood and need to be comforted that I wont hemorage. Just call me a crybaby.

Normal to Bleed after Surgery?

Hi,

I had a very small amount of discharge for only a couple days. There are Sisters who have discharge for several weeks also. It's normal and nothing to worry about unless it's bright red and very heavy flow.

Normal to Bleed after Surgery?

Some ladies have very little spotting for a couple of days after surgery and others a bit heavier, but nothing like a heavy bleeding with a period. Some just have a bit of pink when they "wipe". Others will notice an increase in bleeding if they are overdoing it, a good sign to lay down and put your feet up for a bit. If you are having to use a regular pad and start to saturate them, give the doctor a call.

The dissolving suture discharge happens anywhere between 2-4 weeks and is a bit different than what was immediate post op. Can be just a bit of pinkish brown drainage/spotting or even a bit tannish. Sometimes you may think you can almost sees bits of suture. What you need to watch for is that it isn't purulent drainage (pus) or foul smelling. These dissolving sutures can have an odd odor to it but this would be foul smelling for more than a few days and very noticeable. Thencall your doctor. It is always a good idea to check with your doctor on something you don't think is right. It is never really out of place. Once you are post op, the post op support board is the best place to start reading and posting. They can help you out when these questions come up right at the time.

Normal to Bleed after Surgery?

I was told that they may be a little bloody discharge and not to worry but I haven’t seen none since the day of surgery and I had a TVH so one would think they would be some, as after they did the D&C I was bleeding for a few days. So I really think it is up to your body.

Stardustofnight "Spotting Blood" Normal

Hi Stardustofnight
I had my tah on Aug 22nd .. I had some bleeding in the castle, they put a pad on me. When I was released the bleeding stopped. On my 11 day post op I was sitting in bed with the D/H watching tv, when I felt something warm pour out. I but my fingers down there really fast!! It was blood .. It scared me and the D/H I was going to go to ER but ... it stopped and I had my 12 day post op appt the following day. That morning I went into the bathroom to pp .. There was a little more blood .. I went in for my appt that day, I told the Dr. what happened bla bla bla .. he explained to me that it was Normal that when the uterus ect is removed, the vagina is sewed up. While in the process of healing, it forms little pockets. The blood settles into these, as you heal the pockets go away. But the blood has to go somewhere ... So we bleed some. Mine turned to a light pink blood then to a rusty brown then finally stopped altogether..
I hope that helps ... He said not to worry unless I had a large amount of blood ... then to call him ... I will be 5 weeks post op this Thursday ... I am doing "GREAT" I do have a small odor, the Dr. said it was from dead tissue around the vulva and from the inside stiches dissolving.. He prescribed some salve for me, and told me this should take the odor away ... It was "Normal" and I would probably see a few stiches, come out as I drained ... that took allot off of my mind .. I thought maybe I had an infection, but I didn't.
Best Wishes

Normal to Bleed after Surgery?

I just had a TAH on Thursday and i had some bleeding vaginally at first, the nurses helped me put pads between my legs. The second day I had a large clot but my doc said it was ok and if it happened again to tell him. Now I hardly bleed now, so dont worry
