mchm

I had a long time where the concept of the vaginal vault / vaginal cuff caused me some anxiety. The whole tube sock analogy did nothing but distress me further. Part of it was because my surgery was so quick since I had an unexpected cancer diagnosis.

I didn't feel right or whole and it took awhile. Luckily I had a counsellor who helped me through all of it. It took awhile but I can say that the feelings of oddness have decreased dramatically over time. Every now and again it flairs up but overall things are good and I'm okay.

It takes time and if necessary someone to talk too.

I guess that's where I'm with you. I don't like the term cuff or the comparison to a sock. I with I could think of something better to call it. The whole sock thing---no. But I try to not let it get to me. Yes it does take time.

I was panicking about a black hole and my mother didn't get it, thought I was worried about sex. Once I got here and read about the cuff I was relieved. At least there's a backstop, I told DH. He doesn't care, he's just anxious to test it out Isn't funny how we miss something we never gave a second thought to before? Really, was I using my cervix? Not really, not for anything this cuff can't do. I'm 30 yrs old, and 12 days post op today and I hurt and I'm a little weepy but I'm glad my evil uterus is gone and at this point I don't care what else I had to give up to get rid of her. She was killing me and my life. Poor cervix was an innocent victim and I mourn her, but I am moving on.

You put it into words for me. You and I had surgery on the same day. I just found this website today and I am so glad I did! I am so glad I had the surgery and things are healing well, although I am still a little freaked out by the changes I have seen and will see in the next few weeks. Thank you for expressing what I have been feeling but have been unable to put into words!

The problem is that almost everything I can think of sounds like it comes from the porn industry (except for love canal, which brings to mind toxic waste in New Jersey). I don't know -- "remanufactured self-sealing vagina"?

As long as mine heals correctly, I'm fine with it. Maybe I'll call it Fred.

I've been calling it the "love canal", as that seems to be the only purpose for it now!!!LOL

How about vagina seam"...I have read it described like a tube sock and the toe of a tube sock is closed by a seam. That sounds better than a cuff. Although, I'm sure I could come up with a prettier name.

Thanks Music 81 & ds9kirys - I sure needed that laugh today. 8 days since surgery, day 3 of killer headaches. I have a call into doctor. Laughter is the best medicine!

Re: 3 months later -physically great but struggling with notion of vaginal cuff....

i am totally freaked out over the vaginal cuff also, it just seems unnatural although dh says he cant tell any difference. I know there is a difference and it bothers me to the point I don't want sex at all. i have recently began talking to a counselor because emotionally i am not recovering from the LAVH ablation death of my Dad and everything rolled in there together. I am at about 3months postop and still on an emotional roller coaster, go in to dr tomorrow to have blood work and all done to check hormone levels.

Re: 3 months later -physically great but struggling with notion of vaginal cuff....

ds9kirys..Regarding being naked in surgery. My op nurse told me she would protect my privacy in surgery. If someone doesn't have to be there, she'll send them out. Quite militant, but I didn't care I travelled to another part of my State to have the surgery and figured except for my doc I'll never see them again. After I delved into how the da vinci robotic hyster is performed and found your feet is higher than your head. All I could think of was the anesthesiologist seeing my large chest hanging toward my face and out. Hilarious. I know in my work I find humor in my customers. He must have had a twinge.
