I am scheduled for an LSH procedure and bladder "fix" for the 28th....I am wondering if anyone else has had this procedure and what their experience was....they only take the uterus....and I am now concerned....do I want them to take my ovaries as well.....I dont want ovarian cancer...EVER!

LSH procedure...any one else ??

i had an lsh over a year ago and its an amazing surgery. the recovery was very easy...i was back to work within the week, cleared for all activities at 2 weeks. the only post op problems i had were bleeding a few weeks after the surgery that stopped on its own and never happened again and some night sweats/hot flashes for about 2 weeks until my ovaries started working again. i chose to keep my ovaries and cervix because they were healthy and i did not want to be put into surgical menopause or start on hormone replacement. just do lots of research on having your ovaries removed and make an informed decision for yourself.
good luck

LSH procedure...any one else ??

Hi Hrellabell,

I also had a LSH and kept my cervix and ovaries. My LSH is still one of the best things I ever did for my long term health. I can contribute my present quality of life to it.

On the ovaries...I was 46 when I had my hyst. Ovarian cancer does not run in my family and my ovaries were healthy so I decided to keep them...and they are still working great in post-op. My Dr. told me that ovarian cancer occurs in approx. 5% or less of women...so I thought that was good odds for me. Also, the ovaries secrete important hormones that help with the bones, skin and hair..to name a few..and the hormones are free. Also, newer studies are showing that the ovaries secrete hormones well into menopause...another advantage to possilby keeping them.

In discussions with your Dr...you will make the *right* decision when it comes to your ovaries. Just do what is best for you.

Mary
