Pain after exercise 6 months post op

I had a very uneventful Hysterectomy July 1st, kept the ovaries and tubes, but they took everything else LAVH. I have had absolutely no problems, until yesterday. Not sure if it is related, but thought I would see what others thought.

Last Monday, I decided it was time to get back into shape. I popped in the "Shred" video, and did workout 1 (easiest level, but still pretty tough). I did it Monday-Friday last week. I was a little sore all over last week (from my muscles protesting to the sudden change). Then Sunday I began noticing a sharp downward pulling pain in the vaginal area. It is not terribly painful, but it still makes me worry. I did the work out again this morning. It could just be my imagination, but now I also have a mild pain that feels like it is pulling on the inside of my belly-button. I know this sounds weird, but is there anyone who has experienced anything like this?

Thanks bunches for any answers you can provide.

Re: Pain after exercise 6 months post op

I had a different surgery, but my experience has been that I have had to go very very very gently back into working out. I mean, really gently. Like starting with just being able to walk a mile or two at a reasonable pace before I could do any type of real work out.

I have never seen the video you are talking about, but you might want to everything at half time, or maybe half the reps. That is what I have been doing.

I have started doing some yoga and also kickboxing (the Kathy Smith DVD). I am finding that even at 18 months post op I have to do everything at half speed and half the reps. Now, I am getting stronger and I know I am making progress.

I try to walk every day or every other day, I do gentle yoga every night, and I do an actual work out about 3 days a week. I have been quite the slow healer and was not in great shape to start with, so this is a ton for me. But I am slowing building my strength.

My guess is that it may just take a bit longer now for you to get back up to speed and you need to be very forgiving to your body!

If the pain is really sharp, or does not get better you could give your doctors office a call, just to talk things through.

Good Luck

Re: Pain after exercise 6 months post op

My doctor told me that, after 6 weeks, the chances of causing further injury or damage to yourself from bending, lifting, exercise and the like is pretty well over. (Obviously, that means being sensible about it.) If you are feeling pain after starting a new exercise program this far past your surgery date, it's probably because of the exercise program. However, remember that lots of your "insides" were disturbed by the surgery, and so will need to be strengthened gently and over time. Your body is telling you something important, please don't ignore the message. Take things slowly, and your fitness and strength will come along.

If the pain doesn't go away or gets worse, remember to check with your doctor to make sure there is no injury.
